Just thought Id let ya know that Rotorua Tower is really easy to get into. On the door is a sign saying it is open to public viewing but identity is required.
I was there last week and I buzzed the controller (intercom on door) and he was only too happy to let me in.
Do mention that you are a pilot or student pilot or whatever because they do think twice about just general public, but if you know what you are talking about in aviation it shouldnt be a problem.
The guy who is the best to visit is Graham (well known in ATC circles), he is an ageing due, used to be the ATC at Ardmore when a tower was still in use. He is a wicked guy to talk to and really friendly and only more than willing to show you around the systems and explain what he is doing.
I spent an hour and a half in there and it was really good to see how the other end of the Radio works and will definatly help my FRTO.
So if you are ever in Rotovegas stop by and go see Graham.
