I've heard talk that the US Air Force are changing their planes. Is this true? If so, from what to what?

They are always changing their planes with the new tech. coming out.
I wish nz had some decent fighters so i would then join the airforce and go to iraq.

If you ask anyone who has been in real combat, WW2 and the like, they will tell you that combat is horrible.

If you want to know what combat is really like, read "Diary of an Unknown Aviator" should be in most libraries. Thats an insight and a half. Dont forget that the police action in Iraq is totally one sided. Its very different when someone shoots back at you.

Combat would be an adrenalin rush but I wouldnt call it enjoyable work.

They are changing their F-16 Falcons to F-35s, their F-15s to F-22 Raptors, F-117 to a modified version of the F-22, their KC-135 to KC-10 or KC-767. This is all i know so far

Cool Thanks. About combat.... my grandfather loved it in WWII. He was flying de Havillad Mosquito fighter-bombers

I guess it depends on what type of combat you are involved in.

I was lucky enough to see the Mosquito fly in the UK about a week before it ploughed into the ground

Dumb thinking! i don't believe war is exciting , being sarcasitic , JEZZZZ I'd love to go to WAR ... read some books on the horrors , the book "Diary of an Unknown Aviator" I don't have , but have many were it puts the reals into life , the fears and latter in what how people see it .. how even the toughest SNAP ! sustained war .... 5/6 years ........ I don't think so .. FUN ? .... mmm yeah right , maybe change the memories to the aircraft , not were they when in side by side were your pilot's grey matter is splattered all over you !

Yeah, I saw the UK one at Flying Legends in 96. A week later the aeroplane was wrecked and the crew were dead. We were about 10 mins drive away from it. I was also at the show the day before the P38 crashed and killed the pilot. I think that Kermit Weeks may have a Mosquito going or about to get going in Florida

yeah also recall the P38 , high speed past -barrel roll -straight in the deck .. no chance!

Paul , had a Classic Wings Magazine .... I lost it bugger , from 1999 period where there is a production line of aussie mossie's ...... the wings for the Ardmore jobby , I believe were made here in CHCH at Wiggy ? maybe somone can confirm this as their has been a lotta renew'd interest with the type
