Interesting post CP.
What a high pressure world it must be being an Airliner sales person.
I didn't realise so many of the provincial airports were unpaved as late as the 70's....and once decided they were done in quick time. Cant imagine any civil works like that moving at that pace these days...endless committees, consultants, tree huggers and god knows what else involved.

Very informative Sir. The Fokker was always going to be the winner :)

When I flew the F27 from 1986 to 1990 we regularly used grass runways. Often due to crosswinds or works on the sealed one.

I vaguely recalling landing on the grass cross runway at New Plymouth in a F 27

Yes, it was quite a regular event there due to crosswinds. Napier was another.

Both.
In fact, I'm about to continue writing my "mini bio series" which will focus mainly on the start of my flying career with Air NZ.
