A Thompsonfly B757 had a starboard engine failure after takeoff, after two large birds got sucked in. The aircraft flew for 45 mins then landed with one engine.

Ive never heard a Mayday call before, so it was eerie watching it, although it did end up ok. Good effort by the pilots, but then again thats what they are trained for...

saw it on the tv3 news tonight, thought it was quite funny how the said the aircraft was engulfed in flames, and that the passengers had been put in extreme risk, or words to that effect. the pilots did a good job. i have seen the end result of a hawk verses a freedom air 733 nose strut, lets just say the plane won, but the hawk took out all the strut mounted equipment, i.e. nose light and such. pilot said he say the hawk in his lights then heard an almighty thump, then the light went out, said it was unbelievably loud!!!

Very professional mayday call. I imagine there was rather a lot of yaw towards the number two engine! Still, a rather impressive rate of climb on only one donkey.
According to another forum, the pulsing flame is the result of the engine trying to re-light after the compressor stalled.

Pilots did a great job with that one, that would be each pilots worst nightmare loosing an engine, but the 757 has 2 or 3 backup systems so it's a safe plane to fly.

Well done to the pilots for making a very nice landing with one engine.

Well I was thinking something along those lines while chasing sheep off the taxiway at Feilding (NZFI) yesterday by revving the engine and holding the brakes... It was rather amusing and a truly kiwi moment... (Although it would be Lamb not chicken )

I agree with both there G-HEVN! The Mayday was great. And I was waiting for the much reduced angle of attack but it never came lol... Also no apparent right yaw... It was like nothing happened...bit like the landing aswell

that would have been pre cut and tenderised lamb at that!

i noticed that on the report, it just kept going up, bit more black smoke than normal, but hey i guess that is what you get when you cook chooks in a turbine

I agree, if that is an aircraft catching fire, then my house must catch on fire whenever I have a BBQ.
