Got up this morning and could hear an unusual sounding helicopter. Went for a drive to see if I could locate it and found this...

A very noisy helicopter - a loud 'whop, whop' noise accompanied by an odd whistling/swishing noise... but a lovely noise all the same :D

It has spent most the day lifting logs off a hillside here in Whitby, and while I love the noise, I'm not sure how the people living right under where it was operating would feel after listening to it for four or five hours straight :D

Well, if you had half a dozen massive blades to swing about, you'd also be going 'whop, whop, whistle/swish"!
Nice shot, real helicopter's helicopter. ;)

Thats one busy Helicopter :o Couple of weekends ago it was building the new chairlift on Ruapehu. Anyone see the TVNZ Close Up programme about it?
Does anyone know of any scenery to use with EZScenery that has Ski Lifts?

I saw that today too while I was on my way home. Went via the BP to fill my car and saw it. So went home and got my camera to take a few pics.

That's quite a machine! I saw one ages ago at an airshow at Ardmore, and more recently (sometime last year if I remember correctly) there was one parked up at Ardmore without the rotors attached. Not sure what it was there for, but it flew out a few days later so it can't have been anything too major.

Interesting video "Bingobob"... It's quite funny how the guys on the bottom putting those panels in place appear to be talking at convosation level, giving the chopper pilot instructions from the ground without radios huh. $7500 an hour sure is a lot of money to keep it in the air too!

Does anyone know anything about the Mil engine failure crash that Doug the pilot mentioned there, where he "lay in the jungle for six hours" Was that in NZ?

I had a go at painting the Heli Harvest Mil-8 this evening, didn't come out anywhere near as good as I had hoped, but if anyone would like a copy of the textures just PM me.

Dougs not a fulltime Mil-8 pilot hes actually the Base Manager/Chief Pilot for Palmerston North's Square Trust Rescue Helicopter flying the AS-350B2 Squirrel ZK-HZM.

Not sure he does much flying now because hes got 2 other pilots there now.
