For those of you who are planning to fly into WLG in the real world, the new Stub 11 is now live as are the new PAPIs on rwy 34. I checked them out today and boy are they better than those old VASIS! This should all be in the next AIP ammendment. On a side note, time to redesign the WLG scnerey for FS!!

I assume this is the runway extension at the southern end? Finally completed then, they were starting to move earth when I was in Wellington 16 months ago.

That is correct, there are now 11 stubs at WLG and the 11th takes you out onto the starter extention.

so obviously the runway is longer, but I assume it's still too short to handle the 747/777 on a regular basis?

I was flying out of Wellington last week and I was told by the instructor was that the runway is no longer just the over-run area has been extended; also I did notice that those VASIS were different to the AKL PAPI what is the difference.

We will never see 747s and 777 on a regular basis here. The runway is long enough to handle the 777 now. The 747 can get in ok but getting out is a wee bit of a problem. We dont have enough space to park larger aircraft here. The runway is slightly longer, by about 10 metres and it will lengthen at the North end by a little aswell. The TVASIS have 6 fly up and fly down lights and 4 that run perpendicular to to the runway. The PAPIs just have the four lights. The are quite a bit brighter than the VASIS and it is easier to destinguish red from white. Not that it makes that much of a difference for us light aircraft pilots.
