Controlled Airspace

Here's one for the aviators, a question I have been asked as a known flightsim expert** and have NO idea...

So here's a squillionnaire with a fancy helicopter, and a home pad which is inside Whenuapai controlled airspace.
What restrictions apply?
Does he have to file a flightplan for every fishing trip to Paihia?
Are there defined approaches he must use?
Restricted hours?
Anything else you would require, if you owned NZWP?

I have no idea about anything aviation-related, all I took from this is that Charl is thinking of buying NZWP? Cool.

It really depends on what restrictions apply within that airspace. What usually happens though is that the controllers will get to know the individual and although he/she still has to abide by the restrictions, they're generally able to do what they want. Flight plan is not required for VFR aircraft.

Heh. If I were King there would be no discussion about this.
The schlepp from the Shore down to NZAA to catch a regional flight eats more time than the flight itself.
And avoiding the traffic monster would for most people be a no-brainer, but there is solid vested interest in not giving Auckland a second airport.

Standard controlled airspace stuff
No (I think)
Just the restrictions WP tower give you
Yes as per M107?
If they are in the transit lane then in daytime you could do anything(?)

That's my opinion, if it's a real person, then have a chat to the WP tower controllers

There used to be a private chopper based at Monteray Park just across from Whenuapai, and from memory, if Whenuipai tower was working they used to obtain clearance.
I don't know if it is still the same but the tower wasn't manned full time, only an hour before and after a movement.

Cheers

Thanks... So make friends with the Tower Guy, if he's there have a chat, otherwise do anything you like, in daylight?

This is easier than flying a drone, which has really strict limitations on what you can and cannot do!
