I saw a similar looking aircraft fly into Auckland yesterday when I was at the beach, looked graceful as it cruised at about 4000

Jon, I will forever envy you for your job- I wish I could travel around as much as you!

Love both of your Dornier shots by the way, never knew there were any in NZ? Is it new? What route does it operate on and where is it based?

The Dornier is operated by Air West Coast and is a recent arrival - based in Greymouth I think - the Dornier is probably for their service from Greymouth to Wellington and possibly to Westport - there were two DO-228s in NZ some years ago for a service from Wellington to Napier but it lasted only a few weeks.

The Dornier has been in the country for quite a few months now. It was flown out from Europe. Most of its time has been spent at Greymouth getting refitted and rebuilt for service in NZ. It has been at Rangiora over the last week or so doing crew training. Was talking to the pilot who flew it up today, he reckons its a little gem of an aircraft.

I know that the Commander of the USAF in the Pacific was in Rotorua last night, so then why keep the jet at Welly then?

Nice pics anyway Jon, good to see Wellington again. :)

Very nice, you seem to get good results from the terminal

I've got the glass filter sorted now, so the shots are better than they have been. I hung around tryuing to get the dornier from the gate 9 bridge, I moved to get me flight, and it moved.
