Omaka by Vincent Aviation

Hi guys

Anyone else still wondering how they are going to get to Omaka - Vincent advised me on Friday afternoon that they will be taking the Dash 8 down...

"Thank you for your enquiry about attending the Omaka Air Show over Easter. We have decided to take our Dash 8 Aircraft down on Saturday 7th April departing Wellington at 8.00am and returning at 5pm. The tickets will be $195.00 including GST. This price includes entry into the show. If you would like to make a booking please call the office on 0800 846 236."

I've booked my ticket, My Dad has booked, as has my brother and one of my friends - so it is filling fast. Great deal and definitely THE way to arrive at the airshow.

When you say - THE way to arrive, you will find you will (most likely) be flying into Woodbourne, not Omaka, which is closed to all general aviation traffic.
For the GA plane spotter, Woodbourne ends up as a big GA park !!

It is THE way to arrive, and my experience has been that charter flights hooked to an airshow put you down in the middle of the flightline on arrival
Definitely worth confirming with VA though...going to Woodbourne would not be THE way

...and from Vincent I quote "...we had to alter the departure time as the air show organizers have advised they want all aircraft on the ground at Omaka by 8.30 am"

Guessing that means we are dropping in direct to Omaka

Cool - Omaka it is !!! Did not know the Dash 8 was grass runway capable, but I guess why not.

Yeah, I think the Dash 100 was at omaka at the last show. (I think I saw a picture)

Can't recall it at the last one. I was there on the Friday & Saturday with the RNZAF display. We took a Strikemaster out on the back of a truck, which was a challenge !!

Given that we've all booked and paid for a return flight to flight to 'Omaka' and the correspondence pretty clearly stated that we needed to be "on the ground at Omaka" I'd be surprised, and just a bit put out if it is going to Woodbourne

I understand that, if that is the case, then a shuttle of some sort may be provided to get to Omaka but it would be like booking a flight to Wellington and getting dropped off at Paraparaumu

Just as an interesting aside... did you know, that just because you hold a ticket that:

A. You are not guaranteed a seat on the aircraft. ie. Check in early! First in first served as they say, and the last ones to arrive on an oversold flight lose

and (my personal fav)

B. The airline dont even have to FLY you to your destination. Your ticket represents a contract to get you from Point A to Point B. It does not actually specify a mode of travel, so they could fly NZWN to NZWB and then bus to NZOM. In fact they could theoretically put you on a ferry to Picton and bus you to Omaka!

You find out some really interesting facts when your better half works for the airlines You should see the 'requirements' for paying out when the airline lose your baggage! hahaah all I can say is make sure you have travel insurance!
