A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Looking for some reference in my photo collection just now, I came across these - taken 22 years ago today!

As far as I know, this is the only time Skyhawks ever operated from this particular airfield... anyone prepared to hazard a guess as to where these two Skyhawks were operating from on March 2nd 1985?

It was during the transition from the SEA scheme to the Lizard scheme. In fact I'm pretty sure this was the first time that the Lizard had been seen in public. '6201 was still wearing the old scheme as it performed its display - including this touch 'n go.

'6202 was parked as static, resplendent in the new scheme. It's seen here as it departs at the end of the day. Note the small boy in the foreground, seemingly unfazed by the very noisy aircraft in such close proximity. No crowd fences in those days. Everybody could be trusted to behave themselves back then :D

I remember the day well - it was a great little airshow.

Nope - think much smaller ;)

It is in the North Island, and is an airfield that most people wouldn't think a Skyhawk would be able to get in to. Although they seemed to have no trouble getting in and out :D

Correct - Paraparaumu

There used to be airshows held every few years out there. It's a great little airfield where you always got to sit real close to the action. Loved every show they had.

It also used to serve as the official divert for when Wellington was closed. That was back in the days of the Friendships, and it wasn't unusual to see four or five Friendships parked out there. Back in those days it was the base for the Civil Aviation flight so their Friendship was often there too. That's why the hangar on the far side of the field is so tall :)

Unfortunately it sounds like the airfield is under threat of being covered with houses and shops again :(
