There is a brilliant book by Tony Phillips "With Great Foresight" the history of the airport, date the first International fight of a 'Silver City Airways' Lancastrian on the 26th Feb 1947 , and in December 1950 was an airshow for the dedication off the airport known as Christchurch International Airport.
