757 at Welly today

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Hi all
This afternoon, about 3:15pm, Dad texted me from Wellington (he's on a ship there) saying that he saw a 757 take off and climbed almost vertically(vertical attitude that is). Did anyone else see this?

If the aircraft hasnt got much of a payload then they do zoom climb it after takeoff. I see it all the time. The power to weight ratio when its empty is just awesome

But why not just derate the thrust and not wear out the engins so fast? Theres no need to get to cruise alt before the end of the SID

btw how often does a 757's engins have to be replaced? Or any large jet for that matter.
