Great photo , had my bro Rick on the phone a whiles back jumping up and down when the last plopped into Christchurch . ... they aren't really that big anymore are they.

I only noticed it because our too regular charmingly abusive caller on Airport noise complaints called in to abuse us for flying another plane over his head (Yeah apparently I'm doing that) so I called up FR24 on the phone to see what one it was, saw it was the 124 and just started laughing at him on the phone lol She ain't quiet so I was just loving it..

Just departed off 23L with a left turn and sounded sweet coming towards my house but not so flash once you're behind it

Andrew , your Not spose to say that , your hear to advocate for that smoooth sound , I still can't understand the noise argument , over Christchurch during the 1960/70/80s we had Harvard's Bristol's Fokker's , Vickers , Armstrong Withworth , ........ today the aircraft quietly hmm overhead and for many go racing outside to check what it is .

Yep bound for Tahiti, then South America somewhere. Loaded with mining equipment according to the grapevine.

Edit: more pics here. Next a/c of interest at AKL will be the A350 demonstrator, arriving tomorrow evening, then departing mid arvo on the 6th.

We parked up along side it at Tahiti yesterday. No one could tell me for sure what it was doing apart from it arrived empty and the crew were having a rest (be great if I could just lob in to somewhere like Tahiti for a rest).

Very Russian. Naturally being warm and dry I volunteered to do the walkaround on our aircraft. Not a great day or position for taking snaps on the shoe phone.

Much canvas on display! Seems to be a Russian thing.

I can remember the Russian Albatros at the Auckland International airshow in 1992. It did a landing or 2 on the Waitemata and also ground display at the show.
I was amazed at how little rubber was on the tyres. They were basically canvas all the way around on each tyre.
It was impressive on water...most of Auckland assembled along the shoreline to watch.
Now this would make a great sim project.

Doesn't matter how many times you say it, that plane will never be small Ian. It's impressive next to anything beside it on the stand.

Stick it side beside a C5 .. they say its bigger, due to the 'T' of the C5 - tail only a foot longer than the Galaxy , course the military scheme appears to make that look larger , course lifting was better till the C5super .. all round , very much the same aircraft.
