Just wondered if anyone was going from Wellington to Hood on the 20th or 21st Jan for the airshow? Am thinking about it but it might be more fun if a few of us were going, share fuel costs etc?

Me and a mate are flying down from Auckland, does anybody know if we will be met with any unhappy officials if we pitch tents under the wing of our plane and stay on the airfield?

Howdy,

Yep, my partner and I are going: Saturday, if the weather's fine; otherwise, Sunday. We should arrange to meet up somewhere on site for a drink or three.

My fiancee's dad is keen on going so he's giving us a ride. Man oh man, a Poli in the North Island! CAN'T WAIT! Plus, not only does Lana love the Chaika, her absolute fave is the Corsair. Go Hood!

We're probably going on the Sunday. Or maybe Saturday. Or both! We're not sure....but closer to the day I'd be keen to get in touch with you guys so we can meet up.

172, and they're only dome tents, so shouldn't be to tight of a squeeze.... only thing i'll have to negotiate is the tiedowns for the plane.......

I saw an advert for the airshow on TV the other day- boy would I love to go- unfortunately its way to far for me to travel and I will be out of the country on that weekend <_<

But may I make a request anyway? The Warbirds DAK will be down there in its new colours especially painted for the show, so make sure you get plenty of snaps of her to post on NZFF for our resident repainters! :P

Have fun everyone, and spread the word about NZFF down there :)

Well its good a contingent will be attending, I'm seriously looking at the Vincent Aviation deal, fly up on Sunday on the Dash 8, stay the day and fly back. $160 gets return flight and entry. Not bad given it saves petrol AND parking costs.

Havnt decided one way or another yet, so will advise closer to the time for arrangements etc. The national grid will spike the night before I'm sure as everyone charges camera batteries :P

Thinking of spiking Auckland's power supply, and then burning up some Air Points to Wellie, jump on the Dash for the day.
Could drop the better half off at Te Papa, anyone got ideas to occupy a couple of teenagers in Wellington, not remotely interested in noisy flying machines?

Depending on their interests Charl.
Just along from Te Papa is Fergs (Ian Ferguson) they can go kayaking and there's an indoor climbing wall and some other stuff that should keep'em busy for a while.

What a shame Helipro's Queens Wharf base is right next door for you to check out as well. From memory I think Ferg's building can be seen in Robins scenery package.

Thanks Bandit, that's right up there with giving Christmas prezzies that might have possible interest to the donor
Haven't been found out yet!

Just been confirmed that I am now taking down a 2006 G-1000 equipped 172. only 80 hours old..... Now I am thinking of finding proper accommodation as opposed to being kicked off the air field and having no where to stay.

Just give the organiser a ring and check- you never know it might be OK/SOP?

Ok, well I'm booked on the Vincent flight on Sunday, so perhaps we need to start thinking about how we might all come together on the day? Charl and I from Welly, I am guessing VAC as well?, so we should be able to find each other :P

What say the rest of you fine people?

I'll be there on Sunday as well, but driving rather than flying. Taking over my wife and my parents as well.

I've always found that the easiest way to find people at airshows is to pre-arrange the time and place/aircraft to meet... eg 11.30am by the Mustang :D So any starters for a time and place based on what people know will be attending?

On a related note, does anyone know anything about the RNZAF 70th Anniversary Airshow at Whenuapai? I have found various references (including from various serving RNZAF personnel) to it being on the 3rd of March, but nothing official from the airforce themselves?

If there is a firm date then this would be a good one to fly to... by Vincent... ;)

I am part of the ground display for most of the airshows that we have in NZ. We have been trying in vein to deal with the organisers for Wairarapa and let me tell you that you will be kicked off the airfield if you try and camp there, we are part of the show and they are dead against us staying on the field! It would be quite good if a few of us could meet up at the show, anyone got any thoughts?
