DA-42 Type Rating tomorrow! Scary stuff. Better do some extra leg presses to handle the asymmetric rudder forces. I hope it goes well, as I only started flying the Twinstar last week!

I dont know about you, but at my school, everybody talked up asymmetric so much. Everybody said their legs go sooo sore and I wouldnt be able to handle it. Some guys even spoke of using 2 feet on one pedal. Alas its nowhere near as bad as everybody says and I'm a really, really skinny guy. Pretty cooling looking out the window to a feathered prop as well!

Yeah I'm not finding it too difficult, but it starts to get to me when I'm taxiing back in after a 1.2 flight of Asy Circuits. The rudder trim is bloody useful though!

And yeah the feathered prop is kinda eerie looking but cool all the same.

Just have to remember:
Power levers Max
Control Yaw w/ Rudder
>82kts
Gear up
Flap up
Identify
Power (affected) Idle
Engine master (affected) Off

Etc etc...

Engine master, these Diamonds must be complex wee things.

I wasn't allowed to use rudder trim on my exercises unfortunately. I spose I would in the cruise on a real life scenario, but I guess my instructor wanted a worst case scenario haha

Some machines are worse than others especially considering how much power is pumping out and how far out on the wing the motor is

Of course, that all in mind i've only ever flown piper twins with counter-rotating props (PA34T and PA31T), although the chieftain makes a lil more power, it felt much the same asymmetric, if anything a little easier to control in roll.

Interesting instructional technique, isn't that what the trim is there for?

Obviously using trim when Asymmetric in the circling area causes problems, but yeah other than that I'm not too sure what his thoughts were in training that way. I know what it feels like and thats the idea of training I spose!

You eligible huff?
"In the first instance, CTC will supply Qatar Airways with cadets from New Zealand and the UK.
"These will be pilots who have completed their training as part of the CTC Wings programme," he said.
The initial numbers will be relatively small, about five or six cadets per course, but as the airline increases growth, those numbers will rise, Calvert said.

Haven't been told anything as yet, in fact we were all under the impression that it was going to be offered solely to the UK Cadets, but that article seems to say it's a possibility for me. Would be pretty cool, and I've heard their pay is top notch biggrin.gif.

You not onboard ZK-CTJ This Afternoon H3R?, I take it, it had gear problems with the Low fly by over the Rescue Fire ute, Then the landing with Two fire engines standing by.

Nope, I was on the way to Wellington for a break then. Guess I'll hear about it when I get back tomorrow, but it certainly wouldn't be the first issue with the Twinstars.

IFR test next friday! Pressure is intense, I only started the actual IFR flying last week!

Also re:HamiltonWest, the Twinstar last Thursday had a bulb out on the landing gear so they had 2 greens. Gear turned out to be down and locked, just a stuffed bulb, but they made doubly sure before committing to landing. The tower actually requested they make the low pass at 150ft AGL.

I only have this one exam. Only sittng because it has been over 10 years since my last BFR so hence the need to resit the LAW exam. Once done will get CPL current again then start on Instructors Rating.
