Do your KDRs closer to the time. You could be a year away from your CPL flight test. That way the different aspects are fresh in your mind and can be recalled for the testing officer nice and quickly.

Thats the kind of advice I'm happy to take Travis, thanks laugh.gif

Hi guys,

I am considering 3 flight schools at the moment. All of which are appealing thru my research. I hope you guys can help, maybe students of these schools can give some feedback. Thanks

Looked at IAANZ as well. It looks like a good enough place, but everybody on pprune seems to bag the place. Aircraft too old etc.

I've heard Bay Flight @ Tauranga is excellent, and Im pretty sure there are a few chaps on here that fly there.

Yeah, that's what I read about IAANZ as well, lots of downsides, being labeled a sausage factory & all.

I came about another school that does JAA conversions for your NZ CPL/MEIR. Does anyone know about this school? Any good points abt the JAA training?

I just finished up at IAANZ.. its not bad per se, but if you play your cards right you come out with decent training

If you can self fund it (and go somewhere other than IAANZ) you'll have a far better time with some actual flexibility

They've got 3 new glass cockpit warriors and 3 new archers now, but they cost a bomb. The old cherokees and tomahawks aren't so bad, gets you through with minimal cost

As some people know on here, I'm rather anti the big flying school sausage factories. I have had a bit to do with a fairly large amount of them through out the country (type ratings, various courses etc) and if I had to re do my trainign and got to one fo these places (i.e student loan) I would have to pick either Nelson aviation college or mainland college (whatever) down in Dunedin. Both are a lesser extent of the big factories e.g IAANZ and would offer better trainign and more post trainign oportunites. IMHO, my 2c.

I've heard lots of good things about Nelson Aviation college. Quite a few of my instructors were trained there.

Hi guys... ZK Brock, are the instructors at NAC experienced with lots of hours? Coz, read in PPRUNE that fto's in NZ have many low-time instructors teaching students to build their own hours? I received the info pack from NAC, & wish to enrol. Just need to double confirm with someone from NAC in here if they are good & trustworthy school to make a costly investment. Thx.

Take into other factors as well. Like how much is it going to cost to live there, will you enjoy the lifestyle etc.

Ive heard NAC is similar to any other aero club - quite a few low hour instructors but it doesn't mean they are no good at their jobs.

Hi mate, I don't know all that much about their instructors or anything really, I've met a few of their students who are good sorts though. Sorry I can't help further.

BTW, just though I'd announce, I passed my PPL flight test today! Kool.

Based in Nelson. So far I have vague plans to fly some mates up to Wellington for a Phoenix game... and the Brass Monkey fly-in to Lake station in September!
