BAC 1-11 Action??

Postby Aharon » Wed Sep 13, 2023 1:55 pm

Shalom and greetings all my pals,

I am curious to know if there was any BAC 1-11 action by any local New Zealand airline in New Zealand OR by any airline operating within, to, and out of New Zealand, please??

I know there are plenty of BAC 1-11 action in Pacific islands by Air Pacific and Ahola airlines.

I also am curious to know if there is any BAC 1-11 action in Australia too, please.

Thank you for any answer any of you might provide.

Regards,

Aharon

Air Pacific use to fly 111s from Nadi (or Suva) to Auckland.

Thee RAAF had two BAC 111 which probably also use to visit NZ occasionally.

A BAC 111 was demonstrated to NAC before they got 737s. It was at the Auckland airport opening IIRC.

Nadi and Splitpin,

Thank you very much for your kind answers.

Yikes yikes It is too long trip for Air Pacific BAC1-11 to fly from Nadi to NZAA!! Not sure if I would be comfortable flying in small plane on long flight across VAST Pacific Ocean!!

I guess it's not too different to the 737s that do it these days.

I used to fly a Partenavia P68 that had done a few trips to Fiji from NZ!

Well 737 is a lot bigger, more comfy, and a lot faster than BAC 1-11.

Whoa whoa how long did it take you to reach Fiji from New Zealand (you did not mention which airports), please?

Wasn't me that flew it over, I don't know the details sorry. But at a guess the departure airport would most likely be Kerikeri and arrival in Fiji at Nadi. Would have been 6-8 hours I imagine, it had long range fuel tanks which gave about 10 hours endurance.
