Regulations of Gisborne Airport Request Please

Postby Aharon » Tue Aug 30, 2022 4:28 am

Shalom and greetings all my pals,

May I please ask for any kind of info or explanations on what are regulations for Gisborne airport concerning presence of railway trains and planes at the airport?

I thought or remembered reading that trains have PRIORITY or right of way OVER aircrafts in that airport meaning all aircrafts on ground must stop taxiing to wait for trains to cross the airport and all aircrafts on airborne must wait for turn to land until trains finish crossing the airport.

Can anybody confirm if I am right or correct me if I am wrong, please?

Regards,

Aharon

That is basically correct. There used to be light signals next to the runway to indicate when there was a train approaching but it's been a long time since I've flown in there so I'm not sure if they're still there. It's also a controlled airport so I suppose ATC monitor the railway also for approaching trains.

Thanks I like to study history of commerical aviation and that includes New Zealand aviation.

Speaking of history of commercial aviation, here is nice set of charts for this airport from 35 years ago showing how light signals operated for presence of trains
