I was not on duty until the next day, it involves one of my colleagues and I have only been told about what happened by my work mates. It would be both irresponsible and pretty reprehensible to make comment without full knowledge of the facts.

From what I have heard no blame should be levelled at the pilots or the controller either until the enquiry is completed and all relevant facts are made public.

Some of the comments I have read above show how little some people really know about the aviation industry and environment, and how much they still have to learn.

If I am able to comment at a later date I will do so, but right now it is more than my job is worth to do so.

and no I am not slanging off at anyone. B-)

My thoughts exactly towerguy - the NZ media's coverage of events rarely provide the full picture. Like I said before, none of us know the circumstances enough to place blame on anyone.

And often enough they blow aviation-related incidents out of proportion as well - because they are so rare...

The media loves reporting anything to do with aviation though....when was the last time you saw a report on 'There was nearly a crash on the Auckland motorway today'? Heck, cars crash all the time.....99% arent reported on the news yet little incidents like this are...nor wonder why some people are so afraid of flying eh haha

Thought the same thing myself, the media love aviation incidents, read a article in the computer pilot about this, one little light aircraft can run of the runway and itll be on the news for days, whilst dozens are dieing in car crashes. I saw the news article also, it seems pointless for them to even cover it, just leads to people getting misconceptions and all that.. It was a completly pointless waste of television time..

In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.
