A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby towerguy » Wed Dec 20, 2006 8:18 pm

the below was on our email at work this afternoon - if anyone applies you can say that I put it out there - we get incentives :)

ATC Recruitment "“ May 2007 Training Course

Yes it's that time again "“ and I don't just mean Christmas! From Sat 23rd December, we will be advertising in the metropolitan newspapers recruiting for ATC trainees. In line with our workforce planning needs we are intending to do two recruitment drives per year - with advertising starting again in August for the January 2008 course.

If you are aware of friends or family who have indicated an interest in applying for ATC or know of someone who you think might "fit the bill"Â￾ please let them know they can complete the application form on-line. It is available now and the close off for applications is the 17th Jan 2007. The link to the application form and information on ATC is www.airways.co.nz/careers.

cheers

it's something i'd love to do, but i'm already 4 years into my unrelated studies
besides, i don't think i'd be cut out for ATC- i'd be mixing myself up all the time -> accidents

still send in for info even if still under 20 - the big thing is that you have to be 21 to hold the licence so you could still start the training early

as for the paying for the training - I think they are still doing that but you would have to check it out at the time with airways

( we are still fighting to have them drop this - it is the most stupid shoot yourself in the foot anti recruiting thing they have ever done - but changing it will be difficult as you are dealing with the mahogany bomber pilots that only know the front of a plane from the back because business sits forward and controllers and others sit "back there")

I've seriously thought about it before.
But, I've tried those stupid brain strainer questions the ATC website links to and just can't do them. Not smart enough for ATC I guess. I left school 12 years ago, so haven't done any complicated maths since then.. I guess that's something you could do a refresher course on prior to applying? As much as I think I could be good at controlling aircraft in a 3d space, understand radio communications, and can fly an aircraft into or out of any NZ airport, those questions put me right off :(
I'm sure it's a very cool job. It's something I think I'd love to do, but oh well :P
