Classic Fighters 07 news

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Hey all

Now Lana and I are all set to travel to Blenheim for Classic Fighters this Easter, and we just can't wait. Who else can we expect to see there? If you intend to head down on the Saturday, let me know so when can meet up.

The big, BIG news is about the "significant WW2 fighter" mentioned in the last show email newsletter. Well, the new issue arrived today - the aircraft is a Mk.Vb Spitfire (BL628, which has been under restoratio for about 20 years!)! I absolutely can't wait, as I love the Mk.Vb, and I was incredibly disappointed that Sir Tim's one never made it here.

Check out this link at the Classic Fighters website.

WOOHOO!

:D B) :D BRING ON 2007!

Also there'll be an RAAF Caribou, all the regulars and a jet which hasn't yet been displayed in NZ. If you'll be going, I highly recommend joining the mailing list.

That's great that there will be a Spitfire, considering ZK-XVI is going/has gone to Australia. Any word on what the jet is?

A guess at the jet - F86 Sabre ?? Not sure if this is going to be or has already been flown in NZ.

Well, Bill and Toby Reid at Nelson (of Avro Anson fame) HAVE just imported an F-86 (see latest issue of Classic Wings for blurb and pic) but this is years away from flying.

Methinks the Aero L-29 Delfin (generic example below) which has been in NZ for a few months.

According to the CAA, she is ZK-VAU owned by Coromandel Pharmacy Ltd. I'm thinking it's Neville Cameron, the pharmacist who flew an Antonov AN-2 from Lithuania to NZ in 1995/6. Anyhow, we'll find out with either the next newsletter or maybe the one after.

Or after. Or after that. At some point, anyways  .

I used to see the F-86 parked outside the NZ Warbirds hangar at Ardmore; I was under the impression it was going overseas as soon as it was finished though. The L-29 seems like a reasonable guess.

Hey yeah, I'd forgotten about those ex-Ethiopian and -Ozzie Sabres.............great point guys! Fingers crossed - to be honest I'd much prefer to see such a real classic as the F-86 than the L-29.

If anyone knows about a Sabre close to flying from either Pioneer or AVspecs then please let me know.
