For the money, it's going to have to provide a lot more extra goodies, than the excellent freeware version...
Be interested to hear your hands-on opinion.

Honestly....for the price they wanted, it's not worth it if you're comparing it to the freeware. Again, Alphasim have gone with the 'no or mini' 2d panel, which I must say, annoys the heck out of me. If it was a fully simulated aircraft, then yeah I wouldn't mind so much it lacking a 2d panel. LONG loading time for textures. The sounds aren't that great either, no difference in noise when you're idle on the ground, or when you've maxed the throttle. The shutdown sounds are pretty good, start up sounds...well, there isn't any really except for the final stage of startup (when the rotors engage and start spinning). Speaking of when that happens, there's a bug/glitch both at startup and shutdown, the rotor loses its texture for a second, and 'flicks' around, which is pretty hard to explain...the best I can put it, is that the entire rotor and shaft 'disconnects' and the whole thing spins around in circles, detached from the chopper. The gauges...well, as always 90% of them are in their other models, so nothing new here that I can see. FDE, hmm...well I shouldn't comment too much on this, I've only started flying choppers again a few days ago, but to me, the chopper is too light and sensitive (and having looked at videos on the RNZAF seasprites performing, I can say that compared to those, this still seems way too sensitive).

The good, once it's all loaded, there's little to no impact on frames. Looks good.

I may seem harsh, but that's my feelings on the chopper. I'll give it another go tomorrow when I have a bit more time to test it. I only tested it for about 20 minutes tonight.

Hmm....freeware or payware. Very hard choice...but I would have to say the freeware offer is better by a bit. The only big thing that the payware version has over freeware, is the detailed VC. Hmm...with a few updates (which I'm sure Alphasim will put out) I guess it could be worth the price they want.

the only thing i have noticed is the tail boom is really short and compared to photos and the freeware model its half a foot or so short ,plus the front landing gear looks alittle to far back ,,other than those things that ive notice i give this chopper a 8/10 for getting most of the things in it right first release and with alittle update should be sweet ,also the sounds sound like the md500 tubine pack watered down alittle ..

I'm sorry... just got off the floor after laughing whole heartedly at Peppermints avatar!!!
In regards to the Alphasim 2G, the shape is alot more accurate and nicer than mine... the textures and bump maps look stunning. I would have liked to see more animation for payware, rotor flex, altering pitch, working hoist etc. The height on its feet seems a touch low. Probably could have more detail and motion with the crew.
It is however not a NZ machine (hence the scope bloke in the back) so merely a RNZN paint job but still pretty impressed. 7/10 from moi New_Zealand_etc.gif
Cheers Nije

Nigel .. Nigel .. NIJE , ..... in the midnight hours time before dawn and between weird working shifts .. you produced a Seasprite on your own a good time 15 months pre this releases ! ohmy.gif the shape is alot more accurate and nicer than mine... the textures ? bullpucky - took BK117 to get some details to correct some cosmetics .

Alpha should have hired you as part of the team ... Your freeware compared to the $65NZ , many are not in a position to pay for .
Your model freeware is absolute DYNAMITE . thumbup1.gif

The Seasprite does look nice from the outside and the VC is also impressive but I'm a pure 2D panel person. Would anyone that buys it please post some screen shots of the 2D panels and also list what 2D panels are available.
Thanks,

Malky

Hey I just had a proper read of the thread and saw that there was little/ no 2D panel. I remember reading a thread in the captain sim forums where the administrator flamed someone for asking about 2D, they said 2 D is old news, VC is where its at. I'm not so worried about eye candy but funcionality.
