NZFF

Developer krzysk1 has created a huge set of Seaplane bases, helipads, airports and grass airfields for AFS2. These are not fully modelled airports although many have runways and towers. Think of them as location markers - just add the ones you want and they will appear on the Location screen with the usual runway diagram and starting points. I added Coromandel and Pauanui Bay to Rob's Coromandel scenery.

Chris has placed the NZ ones in \South Pacific\Antarctica which might be the reason it's been a bit cold lately

EDIT: Just to clarify, these are sets of tsc and toc files. The airfields one was about 10MB.

Ah OK I get it now, after downloading the tsc files: nice to see the airfields on nav data, but obviously nothing on the scenery.

Charl - I started getting some pics for you this morning, but ran into some strange problems. I suspect there is a height clash between the Coromandel mesh and whatever mesh or height data is related to Chris' NZUN. I will have to look into it, and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Pauanui looks fine from here, but if you look at the left you can see the autogen has started to disappear.


As I get closer it reverts to the photoscenery only. When I selected Pauanui as a start location, I found I was sitting on mesh on the photo, but with no autogen visible

Was it not affected by where you start the sim?

I also have a slightly floating Piper, but of more concern is the racetrack around the water interface!

Yes, the cultivation needs to be broken down into smaller areas. I can fly all the way around the peninsula and retain the cultivation, but starting in some places, or leaving and coming back, and it won't appear until I'm close to the base placement point. This has been a bit of a learning curve, and I've been too busy to get back to it, but the Coromandel was meant to be a bit of an experiment, seeing what works, and what doesn't.

Same with the water -- I just used the Prepar3d aerials and masks, but Aerofly FS2 doesn't handle soft blends like Prepar3d, so they appear banded like that. Again, this just needs the work done, along with punching up the aerials a bit so they don't look so washed out.

I have been working on X-plane photoscenery for NZCH, and I've learnt a bit about that -- it needs a serious gamma adjustment to look good, and I suspect that Aerofly might need something similar.
The goal with the Coromandel was always to do a tour with my camera, and release the whole thing for all the sims. I have no idea if that will ever happen, and in the middle of winter with heaps of credit card debt, it seems like it may be a while off.

I do include a mesh for the Coromandel, 5 metres from memory, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were compatibility issues with other scenery -- just like all the other sims. That's why we need a NZ-wide base like Orbx TrueEarth.

Yes, Charl, Rob and I did find this, and it was related to the 'size' parameter set in the Coromandel file. Rob sent me a later version with the file in two parts, and that helped.
There was some discussion in the IPACS forum about a similar effect and that was related to duplicate tsc files.
When I look in the location screen, I can see and select NZAA ( an FSCloudport airport), Whiritoa Sands, a fictional strip I created, Ruawai (another one of mine from FSX), Thames, Coromandel, Whitianga, and Pauanui.
I know I created a Thames, and a Whitianga, but now I can't find mine to delete them, to avoid a duplication. The files must exist because they showed up on the map, (and still do)
Somewhat at a loss at the moment, but I will win through in the end.

Well I managed to out-think myself on this If you are seeing autogen, the buildings sparkle and there are trees on the hill skylines. The autogen at the left has not disappeared, it wasn't there to start with! There is no new problem with autogen at Pauanui. P is right on the join between the two toc files. At the extreme right you can see autogen buildings just below the tree line, and trees on the skyline above.

I did find the starting points for Chris' Pauanui and Coromandel were not aligned with Rob's photoscenery. I have corrected P and have the data for Coro.. I will post the revised TSC files later.. Pity we can't do attachments in NZFF.

Well, I got the airports appearing as they should in the location screen. Then I decided to check them out, and found I could only see the mesh and photo, but no trees or autogen. So I moved some folders back from \Documents\AFS2\...places\nz to C:\Program Files\AFS2...places\nz and now I can see the mesh and the autogen buildings and trees, but no photo
So I will retire for the evening, and maybe play one of my Oz Opera DVDs.

Hurray! The hills are hairy again. I have trees and buildings on the photoscenery and I even got rid of the two monstrosities I created in the Hauraki Gulf by not leaving files where Rob put them.
The files I revised to align with the RealNZ photo will be up on my Gurgledrive shortly. It is strange that if you start on a parking spot, you are on the ground, but if you choose the threshold, you are about 30cm off the ground.

Landing into the PR smudge doesn't do it for me though, this is AFS2 and we know what it is capable of.

I wish I had the skillz+toolz to do a quick high-res cultivation of say NZUN.

Yeah, doing a proper version of the Coromandel has always been near the top of my list, I actually started on this a few years ago when the Auckland heli rescue people wanted me to do some areas for their training -- they were planning on flying me around Auckland and the Coromandel etc, and lend me a car for the Coromandel airfields, but this never eventuated. In the meantime I'd done the mesh and photo scenery, for Prepar3d first, so it about half done:)

So my dream is that one day I just do a road trip around the entire Peninsula. I can remember back I the good old days, this wouldn't have been an issue -- I think I spent $3000 on heli fights for Wellington, for example -- but these days getting beyond just paying rent/bills is a struggle.

That isn't to say that it won't happen.

EDIT: of course, when/if Orbx release TrueEarth NZ, which could even be for Prepar3d, X-plane and Aerofly FS2, this wouldn't be an issue -- I'd probably like to do the road trip, but just as a tourist!
