My fellow HJG administration and management colleague Peter LIDDELL has had these 2 New Zealand B737-400SF texture subjects on his repaint list for quite a while .... but .... has only recently been able to address them both.

Each of the following 2 textures are now publicly available from the HJG website (only) since their release yesterday as part of HJG's "4th Of July Mid Year Mega Release" ....

A little about HJG's latest website update of yesterday .... if anyone's interested ....

HJG (Historic Jetliners Group) have pleasure announcing its 4th website update for this 2019 year.

Composed of some 126 texture files .... this particular release is also "the largest" HJG have ever undertaken and features B727, B737, BAe 146, DC-8, DC-9, DC-10, L-1011, and MD-80 liveries representing both major and minor operators from from Australia, Austria, Bermuda, Brasil, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, Iceland, Iran, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA .... quite an FS league of nations .... all of which span the mid 1960's until the present day period .... and among which a major South American "psychedelic revolution", a number of hybrids, lesser known experimental/transitional liveries for 2 major US airlines, and a number of corporate/VIP subjects are also included.

RNZAF 40 SQDN B727-22QC NZ7271 (1985) .... original livery West Aucklanders, Wellingtonians, and Cantabrians should well remember this one..

B727-100 JT8D-7 2D PANEL


The B727-100QC was different from -100C and -100F versions of the B727-100. Whilst being convertible (for quick change PAX or pure freight operations) all -100QC aircraft were built with the B727-200 wing .... which promoted a 10,000 LB increase in MTOW over earlier B727-100 versions (hence their appeal to the RNZAF during the early 1980's) .... and which has been incorporated into HJG's FDE for this particular version .... "as best as FS will permit".


ANSETT/COOK ISLANDS INTERNATIONAL B727-277 ADV VH-RMN "Tumutevarovaro" (1987) .... a weekly visitor to AKL from May 1987 until August 1988 this aircraft supported a split identity featuring COOK ISLANDS INTERNATIONAL livery on it starboard side and POLYNESIAN AIRLINES livery on its port side


ANSETT/POLYNESIAN AIRLINES B727-277 ADV VH-RMN "Fuatino" (1987)


ANSETT/POLYNESIAN AIRLINES B727-277 ADV VH-RMN "Fuatino" (1990) .... after the August 1988 demise of COOK ISLANDS INTERNATIONAL VH-RMN remained in service with POLYNESIAN AIRLINES and supported its livery on both port and starboard sides prior to being replaced with 2 B737-300's during 1992.

However .... clearing my throat ... Will these add-ons work in the Steam version of FSX? I've tried and tried, but can't get it to show up, despite very clear instructions.

I tried that on demo version of Steam FSX and it worked well but I prefer to stick to FSX Deluxe with SP1 and SP2.

Maybe another hard look at your aircraft.cfg and SPECIFIC model bases will enable you to spot your installation goof up???

Glad you enjoyed those "SPLITPIN" .... and "DEEKNOW"

With the exception of the B737-300/400/500 panel I presented above, each of these B727 and B737 simulations are is FSX portable (I'll always define these compatibilities whenever I present HJG files here) .... MEANING ... both versions in the case of FSX.

The only limitation we're aware of is in regard to our (FS2004 defined) engine startup procedures in FSX .... it seems these may not work properly .... but .... engine startup "WILL" work perfectly fine, in FSX, using the alternative default engine startup option.

Apart from that .... in the case of any FS2004 simulation that's FSX portable, installation within FSX tends to me "more sensitive" .... requiring a strict procedure being adhered to or these simulations won't display.

"SPLITPIN" .... can I sugest you take a swing over to HJG .... post there .... and mark you posting to the attention of "Nathan". He's our best FSX representative. Unfortunately I'm not an FSX user .... and I don't like anyone that's not entirely competent with in regard to the "finer inner workings" of HJG files to give out advice since that's tended to mislead too many in the past.

Take up my offer .... and I'll ask Nathan to possibly expect you over there .... and we'll see what we can do to get you up'n'running.

In the meantime .... I may showcase a little more local and region traffic subjects that are HJG stock and which most NZ'rs whom have been around aviation since the 70's might likely remember.

Note the spelling of the word CARGO in the very last image .... which appears as "CANGO".

That's not a typographical or texture error, but rather, it's how this particular aircraft (leased-in from IPEC AVIATION) actually appeared during it's last days in service with SAFE AIR and prior to it's return to IPEC in Australia ....

On April 1st 1990 ARGOSY ZK-SAF was damaged as the result of a port main gear failure at Woodbourne/Blenheim Airport. The aircraft was on approach to Wellington Intl Airport when the crew noted an illuminated gear warning lamp .... indicating the port main gear had extended but without locking. The approach was aborted whilst the crew endeavoured to troubleshoot the problem .... which included recycling and manually extending the gear (along with other means not referenced within the aircrafts Abnormal Procedures Manual) in attempt to "force its extension and locking". Diversion to Woodbourne was eventually ordered and a precautionary approach to landing made with an "unlocked" port main gear indication. Upon touchdown the crew used aileron control to hold the aircraft level upon its secure starboard main gear and nose gear .... until during the final moments of deceleration the port main gear began to collapse, causing the aircraft to slowly leave the runway center line and slew off the runway. Both crew evacuated the aircraft and were completely unharmed. Failure of the main gear locking pin was a common end-of-life failure for ARGOSY transports.

ACCIDENT/INCIDENT SUMMARY AW-650-222 ARGOSY ZK-SAF, Woodbourne/Blenheim, New Zealand, April 1st 1990

From April 23rd 1990 a replacement ARGOSY (ZK-SAL ex VH-IPB) was leased from Australia's IPEC AVIATION whilst repairs were effected to the damaged ZK-SAF. This particular aircraft operated in a hybrid livery composed of "SAFE AIR CARGO" titles over the standard yellow and natural metal IPEC AVIATION fuselage, and red tail fins with small white SAFE AIR logos.

Repairs to ZK-SAF were never completed though. In a shock announcement on August 17th 1990, AIR NEW ZEALAND informed the nation of its decision to disband the flight/cargo handling operations of SAFE AIR .... as a restructuring incentive (shortly after have previously announced it's decision to withdraw its F-27 FRIENDSHIP fleet also) .... and to focus the companies future on aircraft maintenance and engineering contracts .... resulting in the loss of some 112 jobs at SAFE AIR. It was the end of an era and 40 years of flying, during which SAFE AIR had built its reputation .... from just a small pioneering air freight company and air bridge across Cook Straight .... to a highly respected professional airline regarded as both general carrier to the nation as well as being the lifeline between New Zealand and remote Chatham Island.

Argosy ZK-SAL was returned from lease to IPEC Aviation on September 26th 1990 .... but not before high-spirited engineers had the final say. Staff resentful at the decision by parent company AIR NEW ZEALAND quietly doctored the "SAFE AIR CARGO" titles on ZK-SAL's fuselage overnight to read "SAFE AIR CANGO" .... essentially meaning SAFE AIR CAN GO (down the road/be dispensed with so to speak). Perhaps the last, longest, and loudest laugh occurred though when this particular aircraft was forced to fly additional national air freight services prior to its return to Australia .... whilst still bearing this non-standard title editing as a slur against AIR NEW ZEALAND management of the period.
