Much as I hate to appear ungrateful ... and much as I hate to malign Captain Sim ... I'd avoid this add-on like the plague at the moment. I think it's a pre-release beta and hardly of marketable quality

1) The installer kicked off by trying to REMOVE my (perfectly legal) BUFF exterior [gasp!!].
2) The panel.cfg mods to existing aircraft often don't "take" - even with similar aircraft variants.
3) Sometimes you lose sound.
4) The frame rates are simply *horrific*. Even will ALL autogen set to OFF it was a slideshow ... and totally unplayable (considering you're meant to be turning and burning).
5) There may be a radar (but I haven't discovered it yet) ... so you have to fly with labels ON to spot the 1px adversaries. I ended up having to fire up FS Commander (which gave me a radar picture) just to see where the bandits were. Of course, this didn't help framerates much - and is a total cheat anyway.
6) The documentation - though apparently comprehensive - has mistakes/typos in it. The key chart to calibrate the HUD position is simply *wrong*.
Having *extensively* "flown" just about every combat flight sim released since "Aviator" on the BBC Micro, I think MSFS should stick to what it does very well - commercial flying, with all its systems and navigational complexities. It just hasn't got the horse-power to do all the calculations that combat modeling needs - unless you're running the fastest PC on the planet.
My feeling is that the marketing hypesters just wanted to get something out of the door - to test the water - with the developers screaming AAARRRGH ... NOT YET!!! Releasing something in this state is going to dent Captain Sim's reputation, IMHO.
Whereas I can wholeheartedly give the A2A Spit a 100% GET IT rating, this has to be AVOID AT ALL COSTS

What do you make of it, kcgb?
