Just thought I'd make everyone aware of an upcoming FSX-only MD-83 jetliner.

*Note: These are not my images.

The aircraft is made by Alejandro Rojas Lucena from Venezuela.

I am proud to say that I am assisting him as a technical advisor, documentation/readme writer, and this weekend, a beta tester. (Will finally have access to the FSX machine this weekend for once. Been doing advising stuff which is working fairly well, but its easier to do if I could actually use the model).
Barring any snags that I discover in beta testing this weekend, you can expect release VERY SOON! smile.gif

As a sample of what this freeware will include: It will have a functional FMC!

Looking good, Sean! Looking forward to it!

Are FMCs hard to code? Or is it that they're potential frame-rate killers?

Thanks for the comments.

Keep in mind that all of the modeling and coding done here is Alejandro's work. I'm (along with a few others) simply helping with some technical direction and other minor things.

Regarding the FMC, that is a freeware guage that has been available from Avsim for a while now, and Alejandro (Alex) will be using it in his release. Full credit will be given to the author of that gauge in the documentation. We tried for numerous weeks to contact the author of the FMC, but with zero response, so we are going through with including it will full credit towards him. If he has a problem with it down the road, assuming he'll come back into the FS community, we'll deal with it then.

Expect the plane very soon! Probably not during this upcoming weekend, because I will be doing some final testing then, but it's possible that it'll be available by the end of next week!

Sean , we don,t see many MD-83s or the DC-9 brand at all in the NZ , it would be interesting to do a follow up , with US Navy they operated C9 Nightingales , these cant tell you if they were used at any stage here also , but this looks a great freeware and course maybe one will do a US Navy paint and make a VIP visit cool.gif

Yes, or even a fictional Air New Zealand livery. winkyy.gif

Here's an image of an MD-87 at Auckland in 2006. Registration is a VP-C....so it's registered with the Cayman Islands (probably for tax reasons). Not sure where it's actually based out of.

Looks like an awesome effort. How does this compare to the default FSX one? I don't fly the MD-83, so am not familiar with the default model.

Of you course you don't fly the default FSX MD-83. It's only for the AI traffic and I wouldn't recommended flying it.

Thankyou very much Alejandro for this awesome freeware MD-83 for FSX!! Just downloading it now. Can't wait to fly it! biggrin.gif

Let's put it this way
a default model like FSX md 83 can be done in TWO hours..a couple hours

While this one took me 4 month ,I can't explain myself in a shot ,but there is Wing flex animation ,bumper maps ,specular maps Virtual Cockpit (that took me 2 month and a half with the making of some of the main gauges) and couple hundreds of things that the default md 83 doesn't has ,Including an FMC "Flight Management Computer"

and its free..., while the other isn't (came with the FSX game we all paid )
