There's a wee bit more if you follow the link 'Microsoft returns to its roots...' Hopefully some more info before Gamecom is over, but it does look like we are getting a new sim from MS.

Microsoft Live is where it's at...toss all your "old" sim software and computer gear, M$ is back in town!
I would be very surprised if this one was open source...

Here's the link to the article on Bitbag.

The relevant bit is this:

"Microsoft dropped a major bomb on us Friday. Not only did they announce that they are returning to PC gaming, they have blessed us with assets and info on their first 2 new exclusive PC titles.

First on the block is the return of Microsoft Flight Simulator. It has a new name, new look and new attitude. The newly announced flight simulator will bare the title, Microsoft Flight. This franchise is 20 years old and refuses to die. Microsoft is internally developing this game. There are no other details at this moment.
"

I don't think "PC titles" means XBox. At least I hope not!!

Think that says it all , we all no that , its not dying , it growing , and again as we all no , getting more detailed and possibly more Microsoft could have thought off ! cool.gif

Thanks for the link Adamski!! I wonder what monster PC M$ will expect us all to buy in the coming years!! The Microsoft Flight page is up............

Microsoft FLIGHT

Nothing really exciting yet - just an announcement under 'NEWS' and another link to the trailer.......... I really hope they don't 'dumb down' the title in order to appeal to the masses..........

I wonder if the typo is intentional?

The newly announced flight simulator will bare the title, Microsoft Flight.

What a tragic, useless and totally uninformative trailer. Why bother? and why 34 MB?
Microsoft should adopt Nike's catch phrase....just do it!

Let's hope they remember to code it for DX11 - and not to take shortcuts this time...

So, ages ago, not long after the ACES studio all got the chop, MS sent out an email survey to people at random, who were subscribed to the old "fsinsider" website. I was one of the lucky ones that received that invitation to tell MS exactly what I thought of their plans or otherwise for FS.

The exact content of that survey has long left my memory, but a couple of impressions have stuck with me since then - first, that they were never going to just "drop" FS; second, any new title from them would be designed to be as inclusive as possible. Now they've at last released a teaser for the new game, I'm still left with those same impressions.

With respect to the second one, you could assume that it means "dumbed down"...

...welcoming everyone...
might imply that. BUT

...including long-time fans...
to me says they want to build a SIM still.

Of course it's all still speculation, but surely it's good news that they're continuing with "Flight Games" (to quote the FSInsider survey) at all?

Awesome news , i cant imagine them changing that much , just glaming it up with more shaders maybe some ground texture changes etc and locking down the MP part of it as win live$$ , it would have to still be open source or they will loss a big part of what makes there sim a winner , users would have to wait forever for new planes scenery etc and we all know simmers arent that great at waiting for stuff..

Just a little bit more background info

here.

So, as I read it, if a third party designer ain't franchised by MS Live, it just ain't gonna work in LIVE.

Boy, that's really gonna get up existing payware designer's noses.

Yes, I've read a lot of interesting points of view since this news was released, much of it the same old stuff which has accompanied every new sim version as far back as I can remember. At one particular forum 7 out of 9 posts in the first hour were very negative, which seems strange, considering how we all love a new sim...

But this point, which Charl mentioned as well, is the only real issue I have. Going by my experience with Xbox Live, and lately Windows Live, it is not really likely that there will be any way for casual developers to get anything out on their own.

Either they'll need to apply for licensing from Microsoft, or they'll need to go through a middle man who is licensed. Either way it'll be tough to get stuff out. If we're lucky, one of the major FS sites will do the hard work for the small developers, checking that addons are compliant, and then passing them onto Windows Live. Whatever system we end up with, it'll mean a big change from the ways things are done now.

A lot of developers may be happy to support FSX as an alternative platform.
