Amazing that Aerosoft carries on treading its own path regardless.
Is Global Scenery Streaming what it sounds like, do you not download the stuff?

When I start AFS4, that calls Steam, which checks and if necessary updates the AFS files in the Steam/./././AFS4 folder on my PC - so all the new stuff came down this morning in a couple of minutes and I could use it.
It might be more correct to say that the new files are added to the AFS version in my Steam account ( so what appear to be files on my PC are actually links to the content on Steam ) That leaves me slightly more confuddled than I was before.
More later after I check whether AFS will run offline.

Hah! More later after I check whether AFS will run offline. Easier said than done.
The question was asked when AFS4 was announced, and the answer then was yes, but only in a very limited area of S-W USA. I have not found a more recent instance.
I switched this machine on and it said the LAN was working but no internet access. So I started the flying machine which said the same, but with great coolness and determination I told AFS4 to start. Steam did its usual check/update thing and the sim came up, with all locations available, working normally. I exited the sim and the machine was still saying no internet, confirmed by the rest of the network.
Even if Steam has its own browser which can take priority, I don't understand how that can work.
I use a wired network. All the bits talk to an 8-port switch connected to mobile broadband hub (= wireless modem/router) which provides the only connection to cyberspace. The wifi access point for the birdie cams connects in the same way.
So at best, all I can definitely say is AFS4 might run offline but probably not

Charl, if you hear of some remote place looking for a village idiot, put my name down :dots:
There is a switch in the AFS4 startup menu to enable/disable Global Scenery. I have disabled it and so far I can't see a lot of difference.
Now I'll have to fly around making careful comparison pics... :plane:

Sorry Mike, all available postings already filled, including this one...
Now you will find the thing has a local cache, and to clear it requires a re-install or somesuch.
I dunno, I just want a copy of FS2004 with hi-res enviro graphics and I'll be happy.
