Christchurch Airport Control Tower scenery

Postby zk_ncf » Fri Feb 19, 2016 3:41 pm

Dear all,

First time post here.

I've been toying with modelling for a while and finally finished my first serious model, the new NZCH airport tower (ok 6 years isn't exactly "new").

(I got the idea after coming across some screen shots of Nick's tower, which doesn't appear to have been released (?))

The tower compliments Orbx NZSI well and makes flying into NZCH that much more enjoyable (until we have a custom built airport of course).

Here's some screen shots taken straight from P3D v 3 without editing.

If there's enough interest I will release the model on Avsim this weekend for all to enjoy.

Cheers

Jack

Hi thanks for the warm welcome and comments.

It's now available on AVSIM if you wanna check it out.

to cowpatz: I use Sketchup and Blender for modelling and Photoshop for texturing (of course).

to Nick: thanks for the kind words. not sure if this is appropriate to say but it was you who gave me the inspiration. BTW are you still working on any FS projects?

Hi,

thanks for making this available. Could you, please, give a link or filename; a quick AVSIM search didn't provide me anything.

BTW, I'd add a payware CHCH addon at day one.

Thanks and kind regards, Michael

Edit: Sorry, just saw the other thread and found it, thanks.

I sent photo's to Nick as he mentioned he was working on Christchurch , this morning I sent the photo's to Jack to have a look at. What I did 16 years back was build the Christchurch airport as it was back for FS2000/2002/2004 and a couple of updates final version in 2005, this took its own sweet time.

Jack, Nick , after Christchurch Intl, Alistair Curnow asked for a Nelson Airport scenery , so with Jon Murchison offering to do the AFCAD, Alistair supplying the photos and other details offer we went and produced Nelson in really good time.

This moved onto Wellington and again created a team, Ian Warren, Jon Murchison, James Eden and Robin Corn , Jon this time built the Terminal , I built the airstairs and rest of the airport and Rob placing photo-real underneath and James supply me photos on a regular basis and If required would go out for more information .. so in double quick time we had a Christchurch Nelson Wellington run , maybe you should both you Jack and Nick should team up and share the task, it a huge project for one when you have other comments like work or both your case Uni.

Maybe worth the idea to look at , if it come down to it textures I can help outwith if require.

Yeah I've been working on it. I've got the majority of the modeling done, it's the textures that are the PITA.

Got uni starting in a week so things will slow down a bit.

Robin, if you're reading this, do I recall you once mentioned you could donate the GA buildings as you had them made?

Yes, I know at one point we were talking about a NZFF-based collaborative NZCH, which I'd be keen to help with -- there are a few reasons why I don't want to take this on myself, but that wouldn't stop someone else from taking on the job.

I've recently incorporated the bits I'd completed for the aero club into a commercial project, which kinda showed up the age, so I'd like to tweak these models first, but they are certainly available for anyone to run with.

Hi guys

Sounds like Nick's gotten quite advance with his chc so of course if there's anything that I can do to help get this over the finishing line I would (be that modelling on secondary structures or texturing).

Ian - btw I am not at uni (actually having graduated some 16 years ago). 20 years refer to how long I've been using FS (in fact longer), not my age hahaha. I have a pretty full on full time job so it's not always easy to find time for making scenery - but like I mentioned above, I will chip in wherever and whenever I can.

I've been working on something else after the control tower but it's too early to show. I will when the time is right. B-)

There is nothing more entertaining than a Christchurch to Wellington hop or into Queenstown , then you have the Nelson to Taupo or Hamilton using the old maps for navigation rather FMC's and letting a computer fly a computer , Good old Classic CS737-200 really hooks in here, the 30/45 minute flight one has to be thinking and planning and checking to no exactly were you are and its more fun with weather added by compare to the long range twiddle ya thumbs flights .... mind you my live style , I would be ideal as an real life International Cap.
