Some bad news for 'Connie" lovers

Wing Corrosion Grounds SCFA Super Connie for 2010 Season – January 13, 2010

Heavy-heartedly the SCFA board has decided to keep our Super Connie on the ground for the year of 2010. The reason for this decision is the discovery of corrosion on the wing of the aircraft. The extent of the damage was not discovered until we conducted our annual inspection in December, which calls for a thorough check for corrosion.

Thank for the link Don , I must have a read , they do keep her in a well built maintained hanger and guess it even heated but we have seen this aircraft sitting on it s tail and wing chocker because of the snow , the damp conditions guess could have taken its toll .

Needs to be brought over here, Classic Flyers Museum would look after it without the foul weather problems...

Actually, in a way, it's good news as they have found something and will be attending to it before it causes long term, permanent grounding or worse.

So after it's sorted it will ensure it's future for a while yet

Speaking of HARS and four engined airliners of times gone by, I've just got back from visiting the inlaws (ex-inlaws? whatever - it's complicated) in Brisbane...While there, we spent a couple of weeks camping at Byron Bay, and one day while walking along the beach there, over flies a freshly restored DC4 closely followed by a DC3/C47...turns out that HARS had the DC4 restoration done for them in Brisbane, and they flew it south just before xmas as it was done, and I just happened to be walking along right under their flight path...

Too bad I didn't have the camera handy when it happened...same thing when we got buzzed by an Aussie army Tiger attack chopper...but I did snap that on the cellphone...
