White Island Photoreal- Out now

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Postby Timmo » Wed May 02, 2007 10:04 am

Hi Guys
Ive released the 2nd of four photoreal scenery packages covering the main offshore islands in the Bay of Plenty Region.

This one is a lot smaller file size than my first release as the resolution is lower and the island is physically smaller. Ive only been able to test it with the default mesh so there may be slight 'bleeding' of the water if using the 20m payware mesh.
The download also includes autogen trees, animated birds and a library object that kinda resembles the abandoned suplhur works on the Island.
The file is on Avsim and should be linked from flightsim.co.nz shortly.

Make sure to download Jons ZK-EJY repaint from flightsim.co.nz- This C172 flies out to the Island regularly and I also fly it as part of my flight training.

Enjoy

It really needs a decent high-res mesh to make it great but we dont have any data out there (hence why i had to use just a scanned aerial- not ortho-rectified).....still, better than 'nuffink' eh? ;)

I'd recommend a good air-tight cockpit.
Good one, Timmo.

haha- you have large 'kahunas' if you flew out to White in one of those! ;)

Hey Rob- How does this Island line up with the 20m mesh? Jon reported that the Mayor Island scenery didnt quite line up in places resulting in waterfalls on some parts of the shoreline?

oh...and do the birds show up? There should be some by the trees in your 3rd pic

Absolutely, always has. Just copy the mesh folder into FSX and activate from within. BTW, the topo also works, there is a patch: www.redbarent.com/support

Cheers,

I did that trip in EJY last year - great fun!

Robin, I presume you stayed upwind - the turbulance downwind can give quite a kick, not to mention the pong! (Of course maybe that explains the 'delays' to Marlborough: It's nothing to do with SP1, you had to swim back from White Island! )

Scon: Yes it does B-)

The alignment is good -- better this time around in fact. I went looking for birds, but didn't see any.

aha thats ironic- The first Island photos (and all subsequent ones) are proper orthorectified images, the White island image was just scanned by me and the rectified to what data we had (i.e. 1:50000 shoreline which isnt very good)

So if you are going to explore White Is with a flying trike, make sure you bring it on your $100 Million, 288 foot luxury clipper built by the Perini Navi Yachts in 2006 (Demo model now on AVSIM).
And park upwind

Interesting, there seems to be a little blue sky in the reflection where you'd expect cliff face.

I think I may have a legacy steam vent too, should there be one or two?

Yeah I don't know how much of this you could do in FS9:
(From the readme)
- over 850 moving elements !
- animated sails and masts
- animated door, gangway, flags and other
- automatic start sailing after sail setting
- speed dependent on sail quantity ( without throttle )
- sails and masts position controlled in the virtual cockpit
- independent two drives into the one model: wind and motor
- new dynamic with crosswise swing
- virtual keel with counterbalance for stability at big lists
- remote control unit for steering beyond the cockpit ( lights, sails, avionics )
- custom, impressive sound
- camera definitions adjusted
- DirectX textures
- frame-friendly model

Yeah, that was with the 75m mesh Timmo. Once I get home I'm going to try this with the other mesh I downloaded.

There is only supposed to be one large one and one very small one. Did you download that steam and sound from Avsim? that is probably the second one...
