Kingsford Smith, Ulm and two American crew members landed in Brisbane to complete the first East-West crossing of the Pacific by air.
The flight time for the crossing was 83 hrs 19 min. They flew down to Sydney next day.
These days the planes are a bit faster but what with modern contrivances like finding luggage and clearing Customs, the journey seems to take about the same :D

Sounds about right... last trip Dubai-Akl took the baggage just on a week to emerge.

Mind you, people show the same resourcefulness as those early flyers:
When Auckland airport flooded earlier in the year, the baggage check-ins went under, and the scales were U/S.
Personnel were asked to bring stuff from home, and weigh-in happened on everyone's bathroom scales!
