Hi

Does anyone know why my FSX would be running like a slug. I'm not talking about framerates here, it just takes ages for FSX to start and when it does and I go to the aircraft selection I have to click the button, wait a second or two and click it again. Then I get the spinning cursor for a few seconds before it goes into the aircraft menu.

Has/is anyone had/having similar issues. I'm not sure what it causing this, but I would love to find out.

Cheers

Hi BB,

FSX is very slow at startup for me also.
I thought is was due to all the add ons.

Runs OK once started though

Cheers

Been thinking along those lines too Spongebob, just not sure if it would be because of one in particular or all of them overall. Just can't think back to when it started behaving like this and what I had just installed.

I have the same problem it would have been nice if Microsoft had given us a custom install so we could pick what scenery and aircraft we wanted to install instead of having to install GBs of scenery that we either don't or seldom use.
I'm sure that would have made things load a lot faster

Its due to addon aircraft not so much scenerys unless they are mountains of gig ,,the first load is always the slowest ,if you try loading it up then shutting it down and restart you will notice it gets quicker and quicker to load ,but the aircraft wait a minute thing never dissapares ,i have about 40 odd aircraft loaded plus all tha varations ,you could just turn varation paints off and see if it speeds up ,im pretty use to this wait now as 2004 was slow aswell sometimes i just go and make a coffee hang some washing out etc ,,actully im glad its like this or i mite not get anything done around the house laugh.gif

I do have a few aircraft installed, not as many as I used to though. I guess the most strenuous on my system would be the PMDG 747, Captain Sim C-130 and Wilco Legacy. I have stripped out a whole lot of the default textures on the default aircraft and just kept my favourite schemes.

Have just installed a Seagate 320GB 5400 HDD to replace the 120GB that came standard.

Specs are;

HP Pavilion dv6000
Intel Duo Core CPU T235@ 186GHz 187GHz
2GB Ram
32 Bit OS
Vista Home Premium
nVidia GEForce Go 7400 graphics

Last night I removed my Wilco Legacy PIC from the SimObjects/Aircraft folder. It seems this a/c is a real hog. It's nice to fly, but after you exit each flight it crashes FSX. Another annoyance is that you can't load FSX saved flightplans to the FMS because of a bug (FSX stops responding). You have to manually enter flightplans every time. Annoying if you fly the same route a lot of the time (Only positive is that it gives you practice using the FMS, I guess)

The result - FSX is still taking a minute or two to get past the start up screen. When you select 'Change Aircraft' it only take about 5-10 seconds to go to the aircraft menu, whereas it was taking near on a minute when I had the Legacy installed. From now on, when I really want to take this a/c for a flight, I will just copy it back into the SimObjects/Aircraft folder... Will probably wait for a few of the issues with this model to be sorted out. In the meantime, I say it's a pity this a/c takes such a toll on the system. The PMDG 747 is probably more complex, yet it is better behaved.

For me it loads at the same rate whether I've got all variations showing or not. I've only got around half a dozen payware a/c at the mo though. Recently I went through every aircraft and stripped out all the repaints that I didn't fancy, hoping that would make a difference. It didn't seem to on my machine though.

Drat! I have the same problem - and I'm halfway through removing the redundant repaints. I'll set a stopwatch on mine and report back my timings!
