Hi I have FSX deluxe, with sp1.
When I try to land in the Virtual cocpit, i cant see the runway, until Im actually on the ground, and then its still greenish and only the markings actually show up because theyre white. Its as if its only a layer, merged with the grass underneath. This also happens in all the exterior views.

i would be really grateful if someone knew how to fix it.

Are you able to post a couple of pictures of what this looks like? Also, where (what airport/area) does it happen? smile.gif

If you're unsure of how to put a picture up, there's a guide here. winkyy.gif

Hey that sounds like Auckland!!! laugh.gif

Does it work OK when you use the 2D cockpit? What happens in "outside view"? There may be dozens of reasons why this happens (within FSX itself) which people far better qualified than I may explain ... but I would make a start with your basic graphics drivers (wouldn't do any harm). Are they reasonably recent? Even re-installing the current one may help.

Or just try reducing the overall display resolution temporarily to something pretty low - and see if it still happens.

Final question ... was it always like this? Or did it start after installing/upgrading something?

It doesnt happen in the 2D, but then the panel blocks the whole runway, and you have to use the ils
I actually cant remember what it was like for the default...

As Creator2003 said, I have not installed sp2, so i will get onto that, and then test it again

Sounds like lack of memory, lack of decent graphics card ... !!!!

BUT ... before you spend money on a new card (what have you got, by the way?) ... and what spec CPU/RAM is your system? ...

Here's a few things to try:

1) Install SP2 (as Creator said).
2) Turn off DX10 preview if it's on.
3) Turn off anti-aliasing.
4) Try running with lower resolution or detail settings.
5) Lots of NZ scenery is surrounded by water. Try turning water quality down.

Don't forget that in 2D mode you can always use the "W" key (repeatedly) to temporarily hide the instrument panel.

Sounds like you're not in NZ. Whereabouts are you? Wondering how cheap hardware is in your particular country.

I have installed Intell extreme graphics.

thats just about all i can tell anyone.

From the pic and what you have said so far my guess its a lack of cpu power to load the full textures plus maybe having a onboard graphic card 64mb at the most 128mb intergrated.. the way your pic is tells me one the whole background isnt even loading its textures" blur" so its not loading airport graphics ether even more so when you have a full VC 3d model to look at aswell ...

also not having sp2 "free download " but 700-900mb to download and also have you checked to make sure the directX plugin is installed fully or that fsx installed it when you installed FSX ,it should have ...

the fix is at the least 3.0ghz p4 core and at least a 8600 gts graphic card with 2gig of ram "min good spec ",,though really i would say " dual core "3gig of ram and a 8800gts pci express with a good mother board and power supply ...

your specs to me are not good enough to run FSX at what is classed as"OK"

this is my opinion and mite not be shared by others around here thumbup1.gif

Hmmm as far as i know, the only solution is a complete overhaul, because of how old it is, and that could cost around $700 which i dont have anywhere near that much at the moment.

So Ill just have to deal with what i have, but would FS9 run better?

Id like to say no to you because i love X but to be honest i would have to say yeah it should run better on your system than FSX has been ,but then who really knows what mite happen and what the problem fully is with your Pc and fsx install...has it always been this way mate ????"well since you played fsx

Looking at your spec, I really have to agree - you'd be struggling. To be honest, I amazed FSX runs at all! Mind you, even FS9 could use a decent graphics card.

The problem is that to bring FS9 (or FSX) really up to decent quality usually requires purchasing at least one or two payware add-ons. Yes ... there's lots of good freeware out there, but I think the real enhancements (scenery/weather etc.) need a bit of cash thrown at them.

So ... you'd end up having to buy FS9 (unless you already have it) - plus the odd add-on ... ie. You're already talking about spending money sad.gif

It may be wiser to save that money and put it towards your upgrade.

Ok then. Although now I have you here, what specs would i need to run it at decent quality?
not just the specs on the back of the box...
