Hi everyone,

Sorry to put this topic here but I couldn't find any place that talks about FS hardware.

I am going to buy a joystick ( yoke style with flap and throttle controls ) but I have no idea whats the best brand and model ?!

Can you help me and advise about model you know or use?

Hi ya Ben , I do prefer the CH products but the Saiteck range would be equal , both at around NZ250 price range . I have had my unit including pedals for many years , a lot of fun

I have been told as well the CH products are pretty cool . Is there any specific model of CH products that you recommend? I want to use it with jetliners mainly.

I've had a bit of a stormy time with controllers since my trusty old Thrustmaster gear got retired (it was gameport only).

I've had CH flightsticks in the past (which were good), but went for a Saitek X-52 (won in a competition). The X-52 itself is good (there's a Pro version out now) but the software is totally PANTS. It's taken them nearly 18 months to update it to Vista - you had to kludge an old XP version. Once we finally got the Vista version, you couldn't import all the profiles you'd so painstakingly created in XP. The forums are littered with complaints. Their support is simply *dreadful*. I wouldn't give that company another cent.

I've not heard many negative things about CH.

The Saitek hardware is generally of a very high quality. I found the NZ Distributor to be an absolute pain to deal with, very un-helpful and extremely slow. Took about 2 months for my Saitek pedals to come in, when they first said they'd have them down to me by the end of the week.

I've only really contacted support once, and they replied pretty promptly to my email, within about 48 hours I think, I'm on WinXP though, so can't comment on any Vista driver problems.

Ive never needed support and found saitek cyborg evo/ x45 throttle and stick /plus pedels /and gamepad all the same brand hard workers and very mod friendly and very easy to find at dicksmiths and other retail shops all over the country ...

i my self own the saitek flight yoke and pedals, both of them are of top quality!!! there is the story of the ghost switch which did affect me but since i have FSUPIC i can just re-asign buttons which is great. although ive never put my grubby mitts on any CH products so i wouldnt know but i give my saitek pro flight yoke a 10/10 for build and feel quality!

I have been using a CH yoke and pedals for my setup for years, simply because when I bought them they were the only things on the market! They've been great but are about 8 years old and getting a little 'tired'. I like the look of the Saitek yoke over the CH as it looks more like what you would expect to see in a real aircraft. The little yoke mounted digital clock is a great addition for timed IFR approaches! Elite and PFC make some pretty cool stuff if you've got the budget! GoFlight also has some interesting options to look at. It all depends on your personal preference. I agree that the attitudes of some suppliers here in NZ really need a tune-up. Its a shame that in most cases they're the ONLY supplier and can hold us to ransom!
