Hey guys,

I've had a problem over about the last week or so where my computer well.. effectively turns into a useless piece of cr@p. It first happened when I installed the Lionheart Creations Trinidad/Tobago pack that I won from the Simflight Screenshot Comp- I started FS at TNCM and the screen started to get funny lines in it in bright fluoro colours. I know it's a weird way to describe it, but they were little horizontal lines about the size of a few grains of rice (with a similar shape) all across the screen. I thought it may have just been a funny FS moment, so I restarted my comp and started FS again. As sson as I started a flight the dreaded "Flight Simulator needs to close- would you like to restart?" box came up, and continued doing so.

I gave up on FS for that night, and haven't used it since, but now those lines have started appearing in Firefox and Chrome as well. 8 times out of 10 whenever I open a new window/go to a new internet page, the screen blacks out for a second or two, and the computer freezes sometimes too. Whenever I restart, I get a message with something like "Error BOOT.INI. Booting from C:/ instead.". Then more often than not the computer won't start, and the screen goes into that mode where it turns off and the power light flashes, as if it is in screensaver mode.

I have no idea what's happening, can anyone help?

Well the color thing sounds like a graphic card frying slowly and the ini file boot could be anything from a software or harddrive on its way out ? ...does it have a blue screen with text flash quick and starts its reboot again each time ?

Have you had any power cuts lately ? Does sound like a hardware thing ...

Cheers

Nope, just blacks out straight away. I'll call the VA 'Techie Guy' (He built the comp) and get him to look at it.

Not that I know of. We've just been away from home for a week but the computer was turned off so I can't see that being a problem?

Cheers for the help so far guys.

If it only started happening after you installed the addon then I'd uninstall the addon and see if it fixes the issue. I say this as I installed VoxATC on my cockpit simulator and it resulted in the same sort of 'corrupt' graphics blocks you mentioned. I found that if I ran VoxATC in separate window then it fixed the problem, so you may well find its the addon that's the issue. It is strange though that its affecting other Windows programs as well and may well be the video card itself - I guess it could just be a coincidence that the card failed just after you installed a new program! A reinstall of Windows may fix the problem if its not a hardware issue. I also suggest in all of my 'tech' replies that you check the obvious - have you checked to ensure the cable is securely attached?

Best of luck,
Mat

Thanks for all the replies guys, sounds like I might be able to get a new graphics card out of it, hopefully some kind of Nvidia 512mb one. Of course if anyone asks it was something to do with my RAM as well, so I'll need some more biggrin.gif
