I'm looking at upgrading one of the (older) computers in the house. I am going to get a dvd drive put in (not at a shop, I'll get a friend to do it or I might depending). Do all DVD drives (internal) work with all desktops? Cause I'm looking at a few on trademe (e.g. here for example )

Also which brands should I look out for and which should I avoid?

What about the terms SATA and IDE? Do I need to take these into regard?

yes you will, sata uses a different cable, i would suggest you will need a ide drive, but it will depend on what your motherboard can support
