Hi,
How long are modems supposed to last

The modem I use is now three years old and is starting to overheat quickly and disconnect etc. (in other words go on the fritz) on another forum they said that they do have to be replaced (I think he said after three years on average).
Does it sound like I need a new one?

Are you talking about Dial-up or ADSL modems Kelburn? :)

Is it just a modem? Or is it a (wireless)router/switch as well?

ADSL. It feeds directly from the internet then to a router which feeds to two computers through ethernet and then one wirelessly.

The problems only started about two months ago and have steadily increased (e.g. the internet would pop off maybe ever now and again now it can be more like every 30mins or less!)
