Sorry to start a new thread, but having searched the forums I'd like to request some up-to-date advice. My MS Sidewinder Precision 2 has given up the ghost, and I see MS no longer make joysticks.

Has anyone bought a new one in the last few months that they are delighted with? I'm not (yet) at the stage of getting a yoke and pedals package, and have been considering a Saitek Cyborg evo. I've spotted it has a Force Feedback version - anyone got one of these? I'm using FSX.

Thanks in advance!

Others like the Cyborg evo, so definitely sounds like a good joystick. I have the Saitek X52, and very happy with it. ;)

You could try trademe for microsoft if you like that style. I might try getting a yoke now.
Best of luck for finding a new one

Dunno if it would interest you, my Sidewinder FFB Pro sits forlornly waiting for a home ever since my new computer was installed with no game port...
North Shore, PM me if you like.

Oh yer mine's had one foot in the grave for about six months. I haven't tried it since, but I think it's well and truly dead :( .
MS have a reputation for excellent hardware, so perhaps TradeMe is the best route (if you're ok with going for something second hand).

Best of luck from me too.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll get something new - I don't want an MS one off TradeMe that's as worn as mine!

Charl, thanks for the offer of your Sidewinder but I don't have a game port either, I'm running FSX on an iMac so it's usb only!

Maybe I'll take a deep breath and try the Cyborg evo, they look like good value at Dick Smiths at the moment...

I wouldn't either. In theory, it's a nice idea, but in practice it begins to show it's crappyness.

USB > Gameport anyhow. USB is a better spec in many ways, and it's newer. I also don't believe I've seen a computer recently that still had a gameport.
USB is the de-facto standard, so I wouldn't bother with GP or adaptors.

Some older sound cards have graphics ports, if you were keen you could probably chuck one of those in (or buy an actual card feat. a game-port). :)

Bought my evo back in 2004 from memory. It just goes, with no difference in performance and feel from how it was fresh out of the box.

Saitek sure know how to make a good product.

I got mine from GP store, $15 cheaper than DSE: http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Hardware/1461056.html

Not sure of the quality of this stick... but firstin.co.nz have a 'Logitech Attack 3' for $19.95... down from $49.95...

but be warned that some of the reviews I have seen are not particularly flattering... and it does not appear to have the rudder twist...

caveat emptor

Tick the Saitek box for me

Im using an X-45 throttle and stick combo and its been faultless for the last 2 years. Solid as all hell, plenty of buttons so you'll barely need to touch the keyboard once you get it set up.

The added bonus for me, is the alloy casing on the top of the bases - doesnt melt when ash from my cigs drop on it during a night time approach in a thunderstorm courtesy of AS6 :P
