Hay guys,

My joystick 'broke' this morning So im obveously gona replace it but im not to sure on what to get, Yoke? or Joystick?
Im kinda heading towards yoke because I mostly fly airliners/turbo props, But also enjoy cracking out the odd warbird or aerobatic aircraft.
If I had the money I would go for both but I dont
What do you guys think? Does it 'add' to the realisim having a yoke or is it just enoying?

I've used a Ch yoke a few times and it does make it a lot easier/more fun, but I wouldn't buy one myself. I couldn't ever justidy spending near $400 on something for FS, I just don't use it enough (If you get a yoke you sorta have to get pedals)

If I were you, I'd grab yourself a joystick. If you've got more money to spend, get rudder pedals as well

Like Tom, I couldn't really justify spending hundreds of $ on a "yoke".

Yea I think ill go for a Joystick, Might spend the rest on some planes/scenery

I have the CH yoke. Definently much better than my previous X45 joystick. It cost me about $200 brand new at the time, but im sure you could pick up something of ebay/trademe for much much cheaper.

I even fly the ocassional warbird/airbus with the yoke. To me, doesnt make that much difference.

Id buy YOKE / PEDDALS .. and to make sure a Good Joystick only JOKING , me maybe not CH Yokes are brilliant , unit here 6 + years old still works super , only hat VC view plays up a little now and unit due for replacement - Ive had to reinforce it at the main shaft due to some heavy handed visitors but all general flight surfaces , engines, spoiler, UC, Flap , breaks , veiws ,trims, mech/electric all set for 747s to DC3's ...and.... me also Spitfires to Sea Vixens ... To Helicopters , If you are to buy a Joystick again CH .. the F16Combat stick highly recommended

I got both... I actually bought the MS Sidewinder Precision Pro 2 for playing Battlefield 2... there was no way you could fly the aircraft or helo's with a mouse keyboard I got it off trademe for like $20! score

The CH Yoke/Pedals I got from Ebay... had to wait for a looooooooooooooooooong time for the shipping, but was pretty cheap and they are awesome...

If I was looking now, I would consider the Saitek Yoke... its around $270... and comes with the separate throttle quadrant... I had a 'play' with a demo unit in Dick Smith Powerhouse out at Sylvia Park... seems alright, despite the buttons being a little different from the CH one... but if you've never used one, this obviously will not be a problem

Yoke and pedals are a must.

I got mine through VR concepts in PN, you can also try Peter Wolf in the HB.(Selling on trade me I think). Or there is alway the gamesman or the Pilot shop down under.

Id get a good joystick if you are on a budget..I myself use a evo saitek,and a x45 throttle& stick ,just recently ive poured more money into my sim and have got the rudder pedals ,ive ditched the evo for only scenery design and use the rest for flight ,, this all came in good time and planning so i suggest you do the same, set a goal and aim for it ..planning always kills the misses plans ,you just have the upper hand after a month or two because you planned and gave good notice , believe me ive milk the money out this way for addons etc 4 years ..

Ahh damb it you guys now you've got me tied between the two again

I'm a joystick user... Mostly because I didn't want the clunkiness of a yoke on my desk but also since I fly helos a lot of the time too. I'm a Saitek Cyborg Evo user, but also use a set of home modified pedals, which means I get to set the twist axis to something other than rudder. I use it for 'turn head left and right'. It's great in VC mode and means you can quickly snap your view back to the centre when you need it. I couldn't do this if I used a yoke sine there's no twist mode.

When I fly bigger metal, I just tell myself that if I were flying any Airbus later than the A310, I'd be using a joystick so it mustn't be too bad!

So my advice would be, if you fly predominantly in VC mode then maybe consider a joystick and pedals.

Damb I dont know why I dident think of doing that with my old joystick!
