i have a bit of an issue, just built my custom rigg but still having some issues with my framerates, as i have posted before in prev posts i said that i brought a core2duo 3ghz processor which is fine and dandy but i think i made a poor choice for my GPU, with FS9, PMDG-747, RBE Scenery and trackIR i get pretty average framerates, around about 40-60 with fine weather (all sliders turned up) but as soon as i hit some bad weather while flying from the virtual cockpit my frames get nailed, like down to 14-21, now with my vid card i got a 8600GTS but the brand i have never heard of before, its called "point of view".....heard of this company? either have i so they must suck! Oh and while im here can anyone help me with some scenery issues im having to, while flying i look out my windows and my scenery is not in focus then maybe 2-6sec's later it pops into focus, really unnatural so i was wondering if there is a way to overcome this little issue, so with my nexy upgrade im looking at a XFX Geforce8800GTS XXX 640mb, was trying to find a 8800GTX but Ascent doesnt stock them at all, Cheers guys, if someone can give me some pointers on how to fix my scenery problem i would be a very happy ladd!!!

Also, if you have scenery config errors, you can often find it will cause very bad frame rates. I remember having a fresh install, on a good computer, but due to having a scenery problem from installing an Oceania landclass, flying in NZ got me less than 10fps. Flying in USA got me 30+. So, check you don't have problems there as well. I use Ranainside Flight Manager to fix scenery config errors these days, and can't live without it.

Holy Cr#p! You can get 40-60 fps? I'd be lucky if I can get 20. Mind you I don't have any fancy video cards or anything. I'm just putting up with it until I can buy my own laptop.

I've recently bought a POV 7950GT, I haven't had any problems with it at all...

yea 40-60 frames is ok but i would expext more from a card such as an 8600GTS, actually just had a we nosey at the new 8800GT, looking good! think i'll take that one instead, hey can anyone tell me if Flightsim see's any diff in frame rates when using SLI?

if your going to a 8800 chuck a few extra bucks into it and get a BFG 8800GTS. Its worth getting a well known brand rather then a "other" brand.. ONce i get my box back, straight away upgrading the card to a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra OC 768MB

I think you might be throwing money at a non existant problem to be honest. I have a 7950GT 512mb card, and I get a pretty solid 40 fps in FS9 and FSX. It doesn't always come down to GPU, but also CPU (I have dual core) and ram. There are opinions out there that MSFS doesn't rely that heavily on graphics cards like other programs do, and rely more on CPU, etc..
40 to 60 fps is more than ok, you only need 25 to keep things looking smooth. We use an 8800GT card here at work with 700 odd mb ram so I'll ask what sort of FPS we get on that here on fs9, and get back to you. Might save you the trouble and wasted expense.

For the record, the PS3 sim we are building here at Pacific Simulators is limited to 35 fps, and there it pretty much sits, unless the weather and AI is pushed to the limit somewhere like Sydney.. It has the 8800GT Ultra 768mb gfx card in it. Having more frames than that is not an advantage, as it can cause other things to slow down..
