Hello.

thismorning i installed my new geforce fx5600.

Its making a very loud noise, I suppose this is the fan.
Can I stop it making this hidious noise? lol
I also don't have a driver disk for it, I just went to the hardware profiles thingy and went update driver under the profile of the 5600.
I don't know were it got the driver from but Id like to know were do i get and install the latest and best one? B)

and how do I know if my cards working to the fullest extent, giving me the best possible performance?

Thanks :)
James

I would have a look and listen closely to the fan, is there a sticker on top that covers a hole that you could drop some light oil in it? Perhaps take it off and put another one in its place if the bearing is the thing making the noise. Whilst I would rather have a noisy fan than no fan and an over heated or buggered card, nosiy bearings are usually the sign of imminent failure.

Try here for a start

Your eyes will tell you. Sometimes we get hung up on whether it's working as well as it should (I go through phases of keeping an eye on my FPS and getting frustrated, only to realise that if it looks ok to me then it's working as I want it).

Hi Jimmy,
that card never made a loud noise for me, did you install it yourself using that included guide booklet or take it to the shop? Perhaps you knocked something out of place when plugging it in?

As for the drivers, there was a CD included, but I suggest getting the latest 40mb nVidia driver package for all GeForce cards.

Okay thanks.

What cd are you talking about trolly? There was just a "winvideo" dvd player cd.

As for the noise I installed it just how the booklet said :D took me ages but I did just as it told me too. I havent a clue why it could be doing it then, maby got knoked in the post. I'll try doing what you said Matt :)

I suggest getting the latest 40mb nVidia driver package for all GeForce cards.

Is that the one your talking about matt? I went to that link but is the 5600 a "geforce and TNT2" or a "Geforce go7 seris" etc etc.?

thanks
James

fx5600 comes under the 'geforce and tnt' heading

Yep, just as Zöltuger said:

Graphics Driver ---> GeForce and TNT2 ---> Operating System ---> Go!

Hmm, does that CD not contain a driver also? Even if it did, it is proberly out dated by now, so I suggest the 40mb latest upgrade.

nosiy bearings are usually the sign of imminent failure.

First up identify what is making the noise. Put your finger on the centre of the fan where its smooth and slow it down a bit, does this change anything? It could just be vibration, squeeze the sides of your case and see if it stops.

If a fan fails it will not provide airflow over the cooling fins of your card, and you run the risk of the GPU overheating...

I opened up my computer a few days ago and had a look at the fan on the card.
Its relitivly simple ,just a fan attached by some little screw things, no were to lubricate, I made sure it was all nice and tight and then ran the computer with the cover open.
Its definatly the fan and it looked very fast  I felt the edge of it and it was vibrating alot.

On start up the noise will be realy loud then become quiter after about half an hour of it being on.

Right now its making a wineing moaning up and down high pitched anoying noise.
I hope it doesn't cause me to go crazy  lol

Are replacement fans expensive? it looks real easy to just unplug it and put a new one in its place.

Thanks :)
James

That never happened when it was in my computer Jimmy- very strange

Anyway, I would be happy to give you a full refund if you are not happy with it. Just PM me if you would like to.

Well I have had the card for a while now and have quite a few scenerys and addons installed once again. :P

Im getting alittle concernd that my card may not be running properly, I have had the case open lately since the fan on the gfx card is stoped working.

I get terrible fps in Flightsim, for example I was approching nzwn and had 9fps so I turned autogen and scenerycomplx all the way to the laft and I got the 17fps wich I normally get. Also clouds kill my fps when my weather theme or real weather is displaying some 3d clouds :(

I currently have the driver version 9.1.3.1.
btw, I also have 768mb of RAM now, so I would expect to be able to fly with 3d clouds and have good fps.

Has my card overheeated itself? can a vid card get overheated then have lower performance.

Thanks
James

thanks mike  Iv downloaded that now and installed it.

I am getting slightly better fps, I loaded up the demo justflight tomahawk at nztg (realnz) and set the defulat gray and rainy weather theme. The frames would jump from 22 all the way nack to 9 then back to 22 very quickly, it did this alot with stutters also But Im certain there has been a performance incress :D

I also purchessed a PCI cooling fan on trademe today since its alot easier that trying to replce the gfx card's one!

Thanks again
James

Hey Jimmy.

I recently reverted to the nVIDIA 66.93 drivers and they work a treat with the 5600 and fs2004. (They also fixed my IVAO split screen issue too)

well I installed and took of from wigram in the justflight tomahawk demo aircraft with the building storms weather theme.

I get good fps if I just looking over towards the port hills with not many clouds in close sight, yet if I look over towards nzch (from as far away as nzwg) my frames split in half (thats about 8). Also if I fly near to clouds I get 4fps in all view points :(

it may have improved something :) thanks anyway trolly.
