just having a look at that card, looks pretty grunty
i'm wondering whether it will be bottlenecked by your CPU. A 7600GS might save you $100 and you should see similar FS performance

G'day Zoltuger.
Got a Radeon X1950 but when installing it kept on crashing the computer ,took it back where there was two more in for checking so I wouldn't recommend that card . So got a GeForce 7600 GT ,no problem installing .It's brilliant can even see the small writing on the instruments while the scenery and aircraft detail is beautiful. I kept getting a black screen when selecting aircraft to fly .I fixed this by setting the Antialiasing to 2x .My only problem now is that the screen flickers when I click on any item from start-up to exit in FS9 and nowhere else .I have tried changing the Nvidea controls but haven't fixed it as yet .Its annoying. Thanks boldpilot.

running an agp system, i wouldnt dish out too much $$$ on an expensive card, when it would be better off to purchase a pci-e system where video cards are much cheaper

G'day again .Fixed my flickering screen by going into the 7600 GT control panel and selecting Restore default driver setting which made the Antialiasing and Anistropic filter, application controlled.boldpilot

Haha nope not my birthday for another six months....I just got peed off at having a stuttering slow FSX....
I was thinking about it actually- Its weird how i dont flinch at all about spending a few hundred dollars going flying but when it comes to buying an actual material item, I 'umm' and 'ahh' for ages before actually buying it...

Also while we are on the topic, Im going to have a vent at online retailers who say they have items "in Stock" and then when you order it they say they dont! grrrr....
Anyway, im now getting a Nvidia 8600 GTS Super 512 MB...not quite as grunty as the 7950GT but still should be good....and its DX10 compatible too.

Upgrading the vid card will do absolutely nothing to improve fs9 performance. It might give you prettier pictures, but that's all.
The only way to improve performance is to upgrade your cpu. Then make sure you have enough ram. And a psu that delivers at least 500 w.

so if you have the cpu and the ram/ power pack ,then you upgrade your card ,ofcourse it would improve your performance ,
so if you have a old cpu p4 and something like 1gig of ram ,and upgrade your card from fx5600 256mb to 7600gt or 8600gts ddr3 with a higher clock etc...ofcourse this would increase performance
so ,just depends what your system was and what g/card you are upgrading too ,
ive gone from 32bit to 64bit huge leap ,then from 64bit to 128mb massive increase next was 128 to 256 even better the that 256 to another 256 later model card ,even better for me ,so i even went out and got another 256 ddr3 gt with higher clock speed of my others before ,,what happen there ,oh yeah even better performance ,now im at it again im going to the baby of the 8600 range 8600gts with 675x 1008 hz clock speed, this will give me even better stable performance ,all this without changing cpu ram or powerpack
so i guess it can improve just with a g/card
