MSFS 2020 addons (Q: recommended?)

Postby jpreou » Thu Jan 27, 2022 2:30 pm

Right Gents (and ladies, if there are any),

I have MSFS installed and now working. Most of my hardware is working, albeit not assigned the way I want. I'm waiting for new pedals to arrive; I went Saitek again as a cost-saving exercise as the next step up (Crosswind) were the additional equivalent of 3.6hrs flying toward renewing my Class 2 Microlight license!

So, I have a couple of ORBX products (NZ Mesh, AKL landscape, FreedomFox from P42). I have Rob's Taieri (get developin' Rob!). I've renew my SPAD.NEXT subscription, and got TrackIR working.
I believe MSFS downloads weather, but a flight from ChCh just now had 3kt winds and I'm only 2-3 mins flying time away in a Cessna and no bloody way it is 3kt out there - more like 25 it feels anyway!

So, what addons will provide 'better' immersion? Rex textures, Rex weather, traffic apps, those kinds of things? Any recommendations - want to strike while I have the enthusiasm and the Wife is compliant! ('cos, ya know, anything I spend now honey will ultimately make real flying easier and less time, which means less money going out...!!!) :P

Two suggestions:

- Check Flightsim.to for freeware. Some of the offers there are better than payware. Has also a huge number of addons for NZ. There is a map under "Scenery".

- For NZ (and AU) all airports from NZA are excellent.

Kind regards, Michael

Thanks Michael, I will check that out. I've been away from sim for so long it is all new to me again!
I did get REX WeatherForce and that seems to work ok - the builtin live weather simply wasn't working for me, and I read some work arounds but REX has always been solid, so went with that again.
Cheers
