On trying to start FS9 I quite often get an error box.

Your computer does not have enough memory available to run Flight simulator. The program will now quit.

Dont know why it says that as it doesn't even start!

If I keep plugging away at it it will eventually start but the problem seems to be occurring more frequently.

Running an Athlon 2700 CPU with 2 GB RAM and 128mb vid card.
Can any one assist me with this.

Thanks

You must have other programs in the back ground still running as this mite not happen to you after a restart and is fresh
try a program call {hijack this} and turn off unused programs for good
also try memory cleaning tools and give your puter a good clean out
this problem is mostly cause from high end programs running that are suxing all your ram memory up then you try to start fs and it will come up with that error

edit the program to search for is {hijack this v1.99exe}
be warned this tool is for IT type ppls and if you touch any window or microsoft stuff you could corrupt your op system
so only turn off and remove names that you know are addon programs and software
do not touch ms window named stuff at all !!!!!!!!

It sounds like you have other un nessicery programs running in the background that are using up your memory.

You may wish to use Ken Salter's FSAutoStart 1.1 build 11 which lets you select applications to turn on/off during your sim session such as anti-virus and firewall programs.

I have Smart stop. Without using it I have about 1.5 Gb of memory avail..should be more than enough. It doesn't happen all the time....one of those weird things.

Have you installed the 9.1 patch?

Well I have downloaded it and gone thru the install process and everything seemed all right. How can you tell that the patch is in fact installed?

Once in Flight Simulator, press "ALT" (if in full screen mode) and then click "Help," and "About FS" if it says "Version 9.1" or similar, then the patch is installed.

I had this just recently, It happened after I had started fs by accident then just ended the proccess useing taskmanager, somethings gana happen from me doing that one day, stuffed it up

Delete or rename or something to the scenery.cfg, found in the same place as the fs9 cfg, I think deleting it will work.. I think the scenery.cfg is what causes this, not background proccess, it would take a hell of alot of background programs to not alow fs to start, heck Iv had proacticly everything going and started up fs fine with like a an eighth of your RAM!

I would reccomend just renaming it or cutting and pasting it rather than deleting it until you are sure it is causing your problem. ;)

i had a similar problem, it happened with the pmdg fmc, wouldn't let me select the correct fix, it would hang, sound would continue to play, hard disk would go flat tack, but i couldn't do anything except shut down the comp with the power button, i deleted the fs9.cfg and it has fixed the problem, not sure what caused it in my case

The fs9.cfg will just regenerate on next (FS) startup after being deleted (you will lose all your settings though) - its interesting that solved your problem.
