upgrade time

Time to bite the bullet and go for the upgrade , i really have to do it.
I got the tornado from JF yesterday , and my system wont even look at ... it loads , but when i hit "fly now" im out of memory <_<

Problem is , what to get ? Will fsx run well in win8 ? or should i go for WIN7 ? .... can i even get something with 7 ?
Should i get one built ? My budget is limited (i shouldn't even be doing it) but .... i could be hit by a meteorite tonight , never knowing the pleasures beyond XP32 .

I guess the question is ... can i get a dedicated fs machine for around $2000 ? Ive looked around , but its so confusing .
If i dont do something this week , it wont happen at all.

Hang out a bit longer Marty and get Windows 10. Seems to be a good stable platform and no issues with Flight sim stuff.
You should get a reasonable box for $2K

Hey Marty. Exciting times, good on you.

Yes you will get something capable enough for $2,000, and you'll be able to upgrade components later as needed anyway. Given your time-poor the best thing to do is probably post a few links to the sorts of bundles you're looking at and we can give you some feedback. Usually if it's a bundle swapping components isn't always possible so here's what I'd be looking for...
  • focus on the bundle that has the best CPU - dont worry too much about the "K" models which are overclockable (your prolly not gonna do that right)
  • and enough disk space to store loads of add-ons
  • dont be swayed by SSD add-on/upgrade offerings, they're probably not worth the extra cost given your price cap
  • dont sweat the graphics card, pretty much anything that comes in a rig claiming to be gaming oriented will be fine
  • dont worry too much about motherboard, usually I build my own from the ground up and thats usually one of the key considerations, but with a bundle you'll pretty much get what your given
  • you only need 8GB of RAM, be amazed if your offered any less, and any more is a waste at present - can always add later
  • I run Windows 7 64bit but from what I understand there's no reason why Win8 shouldn't work fine

From my experience, FSX demands a very fast central processor, above almost everything else!

A very fast Intel i7 in the motherboard should start the game off!

My gaming bundle of joy below cost me a mere £600.... ...(1249 AU Dollars)....

Have a peek at the specification. (Windows 8.1, 64-bit)....

It plays all my many shoot-em-up games on full graphics, smoothly, at high speed!

...including FSX.... :wink2: ....!

Not bad for six hundred English Pounds!

I am a very happy bunny!... :D ...!

Paul.... B-) ...!

There's a few things to think about when building a FSX machine, but you can't go wrong with a good intel processor, (i7, or a very good i5) and Windows 8.1.
Everything else can be quite middle-of-the-road, which should give you some room to treat yourself to an upgrade or two.

.....when it comes to playing computer "Games", I have always stuck to; "Tower/Desktop" computers, rather than "Laptops", for ease in upgrading!

My World has consisted of various computers since 1980, with my Sinclair Spectrum, Commodore C64, Amstrad CPC 464, Amiga 1200, and a pile of Uncle Bill Gate's Windows computers in big boxes!
...(still got 'em all!).
All specially for repelling various Alien invasions from outer space with my collection of space warp, Star-Fighters, fitted with photon torpedoes.

None of this fancy "Microsoft Office" sort of stuff, to bore your pants off!

You just cant beat blasting an Alien, first thing in the morning, before or after breakfast!.... ...!

..trust me... :wink2: ...!

Paul....Having fun with a Joystick!.... ... ...!
