GIF's wont load

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

After the recent discussion of .GIF files in the forums, I thought I would ask a question here in Tech Issues.

About 80% of GIF files that I come across are stationary and are not moving (Like Mikes Sig and Avatar), yet I can see Crazy_Craig's signiture animated fine. This only became apparent to me when I was down at the netcafe the other day, and happened to browse NZFF and see everything in full motion which I was not used to on my home computer.

I have searched the net and found heaps of people with the same issue, yet they fixed it by going into their ZoneAlarm settings (which I run as a firewall), and under Privacy- Ad Blocking- Custom, they have unticked 'animations' from being blocked. That box has been unticked on my ZA for ages yet I still don't see some GIF's.

Also, I tried going into the Mozilla config (I run Firefox version 1.5.0.9) by hitting about:config in the URL bar, then selecting images.animation_mode and changing it to 'normal' which it was already set as.

Another thing that I might note is that a good few images in Wikipedia articles fail to display for me- yet they are not animated ones and I have no idea what is going on there.

So is there anything else I can do to solve my problem? It is exactly the same with IE7 too.

Cheers

Do you something like JAVA and JAVAscript? if so try turning them on and off. Also make sure you have cookies enabled??

Do you leave your computer and/or firefox running all the time? or do you shut down?

If you leave it running, try restarting and also emptying the browser cache. I have read lots lately about people having issues with ZoneAlarm... I used to use it, but then it just became a P.I.T.A!
