Now i am getting nervous .... just been reading the stuff from microsoft about the end of support for XP.
I use security essentials , which will no longer update ... and they say that other anti virus software may not work as well . Im not in a postion to get an upgrade at the moment .

May have to bite the bullet and just look for a new computer .... i wonder if i pm Bill Gates , he could hold it off for a month

You and the UK Government.
It looks like not upgrading is quite expensive...

Im in the same boat with Windows XP and Microsoft Security Essentials.
Avast Anti-Virus ( free) i also use, and i got a message pop-up today from Avast saying they they will continue to support Win XP for the next 3 years.
Might be worth your while grabbing Avast and installing it.

Me too, there is a fix for the "voice" - see Google. I'll wait and see how bad it is.

I have much hardware that is not compatible with WIN7 hence this PC will stay XP, fact is it will stay the old book on the shelf for many for a whiles so I don't believe its doom and gloom, a good example .. Few FS nutters still develop for FS98 Scary - all the programs you currently use will be fine , its a scare tactic for people to race out and buy and update OS .

XP won't suddenly stop working.
Turn of the Automatic updates.
Your system will probably run better without MS poking it's nose in.

I have .... or some at least. Dumped MSE in favour of avast ... so far so good.

I don't run any Antivirus on my flight sim system, as it's only used for that.

I use an older lower spec system for internet & office work.
Have been trying out 360 Internet Security on that.

EDIT. Sorry I see now it is hardware to which you refer and not software.

The worry is that the virus programmers might have some ways to mess with XP that they've been hiding until XP is no longer supported. I started to run into too many programs that won't run on XP, and it was starting to annoy me.
FSpause and FStramp for starters that I can now use. Plus a lot of new PC games won't work on XP either.

That is the concern, though it's a pretty stable OS after 13yrs or so of security patches. Add to that a decent anti-virus and I suspect most people will be ok. But I would agree, Win 7 is faster and more compatible with newer programs.
