hi guys im having real difficulty getting fsx running without hassle on my new windows 7 system. the computer is more than up to the job, but im just wondering if anyone else has had difficulties on windows 7?i cant operate default 737 or crj700, and it randomly crashes nearly every flight. also i cant seem to load my AI traffic packages onto it from world of AI. any help would be much appreciated pleeeease. or if anyone lives in christchurch and knows how to get it going thatd be really great.

Where have you installed it?
I was new to FSX and win 7 and tried both both program directories. In the end I used the partitioning tool and gave it it's own drive. No probs so now I have FS9 on C: and FSX on X:
The biggie is to watch out for installers that go straight for C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games

What sort of crashes are you having? Maybe post a couple of recent FSX errors from Event Viewer.

What are your system specs?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games is exactly where it is.. how do i change this?

Fatal errors randomly during flight. and just FSX has stopped working.

16gb ram
intel i7 haswell 3.4ghz quad core
2tb hard drive
2g sapphire r9 grapphic card over clocked edition
windows 7 64bit

This is more likely to be a 64bit problem, which is why you'd need to look at individual errors. When I went to a 64bit system I had a lot of issues which I dealt with one by one -- googling the actual error message from Event Viewer until I found a solution which worked for me.

I haven't used Win7 for a while, but you should be able to just go Start: and type 'event viewer'.

You'd need to reinstall FSX to change the location.

i am in oxford... but work in city i could bring pc in for you to look at?

By all means not a problem at all - i'm in Upper Riccarton/church corner , PM me for contact number , have you flying in no time - bring your copy of FSX just in the case it needs or was a corrupt install .

Another did you have the Acceleration package as well ?

yeah instaled gold edition.. with acceleration.

That's good news .. thought my contact number is on my website, It won't be anything serious with your installing ... as i said , a good kick in the right place and you would be up and running .

What folder should you select when installing FSX on windows 7?. Mine is in Program Files (x86) I do get a message every time I start fsx about visual elements not sure if that is related to location of FSX

The folder itself doesn't matter as much, however on 64bit it's recommended you install it either on a separate drive (If available), or basically anywhere outside the Program Files folder, for example install to C:\Flight Sim X instead of the default C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

all this stuff makes me nervous as i have to upgrade soon .... i think I'll follow this thread.

Yes , i have to talk to Greg about what i need to buy .... and then buy beer , and arrange to have a few flatmates on hand to help him ..... job done

FS2004 runs great, and considering it's almost the same PC as before, FSX runs as well as I could expect it to. (I think the drain of Win 7 is probably where I am finding FSX is not as strong as it was on XP). But it's only a 5fps difference, I shouldn't complain..

I'm running on Win 7 Pro, 64 bit, with no hassles or crashes and not looking back. Really glad to be updated before the sun sets on XP.

I have a few hardware and programs that will only run on XP hence the reason , April 8th is last time the OS will update but really if the system work fine it no biggie , your still able to run the PC simply just won't have updates, the other PC are 64bit Win7 so its, I'm OK in that realm.
