FSX Dusk/Night and Dawn/Day transition

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby Marty96 » Sat Jan 11, 2014 5:10 pm

Hi there
Just a couple of issues i'm having:

1.) I am experiencing something quite strange in FSX, if i start a flight in Dawn or Dusk, even after flying for at least 2 hours I don't see any transition into daytime or nightime. It's as if time is static. Any ideas?
I use REX4 textures if that is any help, along with ORBX AUGOLD and NZNI+NZSI.

2.) No matter what time, for some reason there never seems to be a sun in the sky, never seen this problem before so i'm quite confused tongue.gif

Cheers guys!

Hi ya Marty and Welcome to NZFF, you may best to experiment a little as FS dose really not follow the morning and evening pattern to the book , this also depends on your hardware you are running and simply things like how or DX driver is running .. best to spend a two hour flight in the morn or evening and watch and record the change cool.gif

Silly me ! blink.gif , thinking off the problem rather than looking, with that system i think its simply adjustments and a little time playing with settings smile.gif

For the missing sun, you've probably (somehow) accidentally deleted a sun texture file. Can't say I use REX4, but if it comes with a new set of sun textures, try installing one of them? You can always do a 'repair installation" from the original FSX discs to get the sun back. A bit messy, but would work.
As for the slow transition, where are you flying? Some parts of the world are in almost perpetual dusk/dawn at the moment (eg Alaska) and if you are flying to the west during dusk or dawn, you'll be chasing the sun (in the evening) or flying away from the sun (in the dawn) so that will extend dusk and dawn for long periods.
Or, something you've used to overwrite/ delete your sun has replaced all your sky textures for only dusk or dawn ones laugh.gif Hope that's a start anyway.

Thanks for the reply, I already have REX4 sun textures installed so maybe there is a problem with that? I never really fly outside of Australia and New Zealand but have noticed it staying at dusk/dawn between NZCH and NZAA for example so i don't think chasing the sun is the problem. Thanks for the start though, i'll have to just keep tweaking settings and try get some results smile.gif
